Just got back from a holiday and whilst there I decided not to put out in-depth details of the problem I had with the F type I bought late last year.

I could find any thing wrong with the car for the period I owned it (3 weeks) the problem which I found out by chance was with its pasted life. Once I discovered it had another life, I returned it to the main dealer for a full refund. I now know the cars has been sold on by an independent dealer.

That's it. Not saying any more. But if you are worried that you might have bought it and want any info, PM me. It can only be a 2014 F type R bought late last year or very early this year.

I'm edging towards an F-Type R coupe with the pan roof myself; this is 100% my taste:

Any general advice welcome. I know all the usual search engine stuff but anecdotal is always welcome...

I had one of those. Almost the same spec but 2014.

The only thing that really wound me up about it was that the speakers behind the seats rattled if you had the stereo anything approaching "quite loud". The dealer didn't manage to fix it and it seems like a common complaint from the US.

So play your own music in it before you buy it! I know everyone will say but the sonorous v8 etc, but real life isn't a commute up the Stelvio smile

Almost identical spec to mine, except mine’s red.
Had it a year now, it’s a 64 plate and had done 18k miles when I bought it ( now on 23k).

So far so good reliability wise.
Just had it’s 4 year main service at a main dealer for a reasonable £450

Coming from a line of Exiges though, can really feel the extra weight in the Jag!

If you go for a drive in one you really need to put it in Dynamic mode, and push the gear lever to the left.
And hang on.....

Just picking up on the pan roof. We have two F types in the family. Both coupes. My son has the pan roof in his. We noticed that in the winter with the pan roof uncovered it was very cold near the glass. In the summer its hot. But we are both over 6 feet tall.

Yes they look nice in red too.

It is a heavy car which is why I’m not 100% yet (currently I have a Tuscan, before that a noble) but I see it as a british muscle car rather than a nimble sports car. I also want something more useable for trips away although it will not be my daily.

Interesting. Tbh, the pan roof is a deal breaker. After the Tuscan I’ll feel claustrophic without it (the Coupe looks better to my eyes than the convertible though). At 6-4 I may have issues then...

My son is 6-4 and hes fits fine.

I owned a TVR bodyshop a few years ago (hence The bodyman). I drove many many Tuscan's. You would get on very well with the ant F type R I believe .

Recent, late model, high end cars with full dealer histories sold outside of a dealer network, hmmmm??

An approved used car from a main dealer gives you 2 years warranty.
Still got a year left on mine and have been thinking of moving it on while it still has warranty..

Have you had many issues out of interest? I drove a 380 V6S at the weekend and whilst nice it didn't have grin inducing wow I want hence now potentially looking at the R. The main thing that worries me is the legendary Jaguar quality (my wife has an Evoque hence the query about need for warranty)

Only issue I’ve had so far was a temperamental rear camera - quick software update done under warranty sorted it.
Just had a 4 year service done for a reasonable £450 at a main dealer, and a new mot with no advisories.

Looks stunning in red, keeping a close eye on the market for both the v8s and the R as a potentially replacement for my vx220 Turbo.

Yes it’s Caldera , it looks stunning in their showroom. But the replacement helped shift any nagging doubts !!

That's everything I'd want in an R - beautiful.

Also the colour I wanted but there was nothing around, so had Italian red instead.

Was it a 14-plate white ex-press car?

I spent a couple of weeks in an F-type R Coupe rwd and then two weeks in an Aston V8 Vantage N430, then a week in a '16 F-type R Coupe AWD.

The F-type R rwd was the best of the lot, in my opinion. It was better than the Aston in every area except steering feel, and sounded just as good. Considerably better on long journeys, with a better interior and perceived quality. The Aston was 10k more expensive - absurd.

The rear-wheel drive variant was a lot more fun than the AWD, too. The AWD, while confidence-inspiring, just felt too neutral and composed; it took away some of the car's 'British muscle' character.

I liked the fact with the rear-wheel drive variant you really have to respect it. For the money, nothing beats the looks, noise and performance. Mega cars. Jaguar absolutely nailed it with these. And the public adores them - you get so many compliments from people while out and about in them. Sensational.
