I am unsure whether my question is for a mechanic-specific but wanted to try in the forum in case one of you (who owns similar car) here can shed some light on my topic.

My dad has a Jaguar V8 XJ Executive which was running fine few months ago but now it is turning over but not starting at all. I am tempted to get it to the local mechanics but am scared a big unwelcome bill might come as a surprise.

Surely the bill to fix it needs to be paid if he wants to keep the car going.

When you are turning the car over, are there any error messages appearing in the display?
Has the car been just sitting for months unused since it was last Ok?
How well charged is the battery?
We need a bit more info to go much further but do you know anyone with a fault code reader nearby?

What sort of V8 Executive? Is it 4.0, 4.2, 5.0. Age, mileage? It might not make any difference but might help to narrow down possible problems.

Highly likely it is just flooded. First check you have fuel pressure using the schrader valve at the front of the engine. Check you have a fully charged battery, add a spare to help. remove the fuel relay and turn the engine to achieve oil pressure. Replace relay and try to start. Note you can stop the fuel by keeping the throttle at WOT with the pedal to the floor and only release when the car trys to catch but this assumes the throttle cable is not stretched. Adding a small amount of oil to each bore also helps.
