In 2017 I drove this immaculate Moroccan Red 1992 Jaguar XJS 6 litre V12. I personally prefer a 500 or 560 SEC to this big cat but just look at this jewel.
Compared to the big German the Jag is so much more of a style icon and purist statement.
Of course it's an automatic. Kick down at 60 gives tremendous boat-like acceleration to infinte speeds.

XJR-S for me. Less chunky bumpers than the late 6 litre, less ugly bumpers than the others, no dopey pinstripe, and just a fantastic stance. They don't drive like any other XJS either, and I think the 6 litre Jaguarsport engine was better than the later factory version to use, with 10% more power and a great noise.
One of these with a manual or the 4 speed auto from the factory 6 litre would be XJS heaven for me.

Colin Philpott’s flame-spitting 4 litre AJ16. Depending who you believe the front-running XJS’ are running 350-400bhp and down to ~1200kgs dry.
Lawrence Coppock’s almighty 6 litre V12. Horsepower? Lots. Weight problem? Yes. The only regular V12 on the grid, I believe due to the superior development options of the AJ16 and the difficulty getting the kilos off the bigger engined cars.

First noticed them as a kid when I watched the return of the saint, both that and the persuaders

facelift xjrs - they're actually not too bad on the 3 speed auto - they have so much torque. Manual though, I agree, would be awesome.
I agree they are almost OK with 3 speeds. Long final drive (2.88?) blunts it off the line but means it's still doing 3000RPM or so at 80. This puts you right at the point where the engine will really pull hard so makes for brisk overtaking at least. Top speed is rev limited it turns out - I hit the limiter in mine in 3rd 
The 4 speed car gets the same first 3 ratios and an overdrive 4th, and a shorter final drive so you get both better acceleration and less busy cruising. That's why the 300bhp factory 6 litre is no slower than the 330bhp XJRS most of the time.
