Been given a £30k budget for a replacement company car and this time I was thinking about an SUV.

I’ve looked at a few SUVs and really quite like the E Pace, especially in R Dynamic HSE spec, however I’m getting some extremely negative comments from colleagues about the E Pace when comparing to the GLC/Q3/X3.

After 15 years of the usual German stuff I really wanted a change and although couldn’t give a toss about the comments, as the money isn’t mine, I thought I should at least seek out a bit of feedback here

TIA

Do it! And report back how it’s going.

The e-pace is a let down for a Jag. Even more so with a Diesel engine.

Why?

IMO the Q3 is a lazy design & VAG parts bin galore. Brother in law has a Q5 and I was thoroughly disappointed with it when I borrowed it. The interior was hugely uninspiring, as is the exterior design.

I had issues with my last BMW and their atrocious dealerships @ obscene pricing, so would struggle to recommend them.

E-pace is pretty cool & a neat left field choice to the norm, but I know little about it.

Considered a XC40?

The e pace in many respects is a nice car. But have you done the calcs on company car tax for it?

But a plug in hybrid or even full ev could save you quite a bit of cash a month with the current tax rules.

BMW X1 25e or x30e worth looking at purely for fiscal reasons.

We have an early 2018 E-Pace D180 'First Edition' and TBH it's a bit st.

Small boot, very small fuel tank, thirsty for a diesel (about 30 mpg), so linking those last two points it seems to be forever at a fuel station. Very heavy (heavier than the larger F-Pace) as steel construction. Infotainment often fails. Dealer is the real let down - very poor.

The negative comments above are pretty much in line with the comments made by colleagues.

The XC40 in R design spec is outside my budget as I've got to work within certain price/mileage/age parameters rolleyes

And I know the BIK is going to be pretty horrendous, but as I'm already on that conveyor belt of giving HMRC £400 plus a month it somehow doesn't feel too bad. Owned a TVR for over 10 years, so I know how to spend money on a car!

Thanks for the feedback though, I had nagging doubts, I guess this just confirms them

No doubt I'll be back on posting a photo of one in the near future hehe

The e-pace is the only car in the current Jag range that I wouldn’t recommend. Wife had a test drive in one and even the salesman admitted that they weren’t up to scratch.

If I was going to purchase a new Jag it would almost certainly be an XE, preferably the 3.0 petrol.

You'd struggle, as they are all 2 litres.

They've got rid of the 3.0 V6 XE? Had one as a loan car for a few days and really loved it, granted it was two years ago, but I'm surprised to hear they no longer offer anything larger than a 2.0 litre.
The XE is streets ahead of any of it's German rivals in my opinion, brilliant handling and a little different to the usual dross.

Seems like you are indeed correct, they've gone from a 3.0 V6 380PS to a bloody 4 pot 2.0 with 250 PS.

You can get one with 300 bhp, but its still only 4 cylinders... but they have just loped up to £5k off the prices for the updated car, so good value... considering one for Mrs T next year.

I thought the point of XE was to see how small a thing you could drop the SC V8 into biggrin The idea of a 2 seater 4 door saloon is quite amusing, well it is when it packs 590 horses.

Dad has an F Pace, we tried the petrol E Pace before buying just to see what the engine was like. It drove well but was small inside, we went for the 250 2.0 petrol, its averaging mid to high 20's on very short runs, its had no issues at all. Dealers have been fine.

Just don’t. That’s all. They suffer from diesel dilution of the engine oil owing to their crap design. I think they’ve even surpassed the crap-ness of the x-type with this one. Add to that comments above about the awful touch screen and crappy updates that JLR think is ok.

Sad days when the only petrol engine in a new jag saloon is a 4-pot.

Here you go OP, just to make it even harder for you, Jaguar heard you were coming so released their new E-Pace just for you!!

How's that for timing! biglaugh

edit: And having now read the article myself fully, hat is a damn tidy little car. The interior & exterior are both very smart, and with a decent PHEV & MHEV units on offer, I'm thoroughly impressed!
