Morning all

After much buggering about and deliberating, I have finally joined the Jaguar club.

I have had company cars for years, latterly E-Class, but due to a change of ownership of my employer and a change of policy I am able to buy my own.

I have always wanted to own a Jaguar, but my decision was whether to go for a more 'sensible' mainstream option like a Passat or 508. But, I had a nagging voice telling me I would regret not getting a Jaguar, so the dilemma then was XE or XF. For my budget I could get a 19 plate XE, or a 68 plate XF. I decided on an R-Sport of whichever model.

I do c25k miles pa (in normal times) and like bigger cars, so XF would probably work better for me, and it is a good looking vehicle!

So, here we are. I am now the proud owner of an XF 2.0d R-Sport Black Edition, Dec 2018 done 18k miles, with black 19" wheels, and black and pimento Leather. The wheels are not to everybody's taste, but I like them. I think they suit the car. It was delivered from Pentland Edinburgh to me in East Yorkshire at the end of last week. Serviced when it came into dealer stock in November, I got what I believe to be a really good deal on a very nice car. I'm a happy bunny.

Let me know what you think!

Honest question - not trying to be an arse

Do you find it a step back in terms of modernity from the E-Class to this in respect of interior and infotainment?

I find the ubiquitous German three are up to date in this area, but Jags look a little........2010 to me.

To be honest, yes I do.

I had an E220 Cdi AMG-Line Premium Plus which had a really good interior, wide screen nav, fancy ambient lighting etc. The XF is definitely a step down in interior quality. Had I spent another £5k'ish I may have been able to get an equivalent Merc, but I couldn't justify that to be honest.

But, when I looked out of the home office window at the Merc it didn't do much for me, it was a very capable vehicle but not exciting. I'm looking at the XF now and it just looks right!!

Edited to sat that the XF interior is not a bad place to be at all, but I understand what you say about the German brands. Having said that, Audi's leave me cold, they do nothing whatsoever for me.

If you’re one to chase technology, you’re never going to be happy with a car once it’s more than a year old. That said, the later Jags have very backward infotainment tech. Germans have a good way of making poor interior materials feel good. Jag don’t bother these days.

No, it doesn't.
