It was the paint that was slowing down the production, I believe. Good that it’s been built and being finished off, though. Would be nice to see one! My SVR has been crashed into and according to the repairers could possibly be 6 months for parts. Annoyingly a wheel is having to be replaced which now won’t match the rest as they’ve been refurbished; thinking of the 1988 champagne gold as a new colour for them!

I wish your old man all the best with it , if you are in the market for a performance SUV its a wonderful machine . I have been noticing more and more of these Electric Cars on the road and for me they certainly aren't the most stylish of vehicles . One bloke round the corner who has never worked a shift is currently running around with an MG , apparently he has it on lease through some Mobility Scheme . The Porsche Taycan Turbo S I have looked at a few times , stunning performance but a bit pricey new and not the most beautiful of designs . Its hard to imagine the end of the ICE , for many of us who started out at 16 with an FS1E moped and aspired to something better , it's the smell and the sounds that got me hooked . I have said it before , but I suspect it was just the same for the Horse Rider in the early years of the last Century . He probably couldn't imagine a life without his Horse . Personally speaking I am nearly sixty , if I can get another 20 years enjoying various ICE vehicles then thats what I hope to do .

We looked at other marques (Bentley, Maserati, Aston) But realised, My dad would be better off sticking with Jagaur as the controlls are familier to him. Have a demonstrator at the mo and It Is a beast of a car. Very impressed with it so far.

I've never owned such a Jekyll and Hyde car. Wafting mile musher one minute, fire-breathing entertainer the next.

I'm only a month in so only had exposure as a purchaser and then the collection day.

Sales departments were variable, some very good, some a bit crap. Same as anywhere, probably better than the Germans though. Collection was all good, but difficult to see how a main dealer could mess that up!

Lets see how service one goes....!

Apart from Guy Salmon Northampton I had pretty abysmal Service from all JLR Dealerships I dealt with . Unless you were Leasing they had little interest . Porsche Silverstone on the other hand were fantastic . Craig the Salesman dropped the car from the top floor via the lift , come on he said you are going to enjoy this and I did . Both Dealerships incidentally are owned by Sytner .

Be interested to know in the New Cheaper than used details. I currently have a Macan that 6 days before its warranty ended threw a load of sensors, phew, but its getting on and I have had my head turned.

I have been looking at some nearly new SVR's online, yet to go and see any though, definitely want the latest iteration, just don't know whether I am mad or not.

This was last September, it was also just as MY22 cars were being replaced by MY23 in showrooms, but I got a brand new car, list price of just over £89k for £75k, admittedly with a lot of haggling, choosing a dealer that had 3 MY22s in their showroom, and I had to get 4 trains over 5 hours to get there!...but this was at a time when most sub-6 month old cars were north of £80k.

On the car, do it. It's incredible, I'm now 4,000 miles and I still love every inch of it. Definitely get the facelift, the interior is amazing (it's essentially the new RR/RRS interior).

Fuel consumption is poor, but better than I thought. I'm averaging late-teens (by OBC), even cold engine 2 miles school runs are north of 10mpg. Steady motorway cruises see north of 30mpg. All stats are better than the Alfa Guilia Quadrifoglio that I had beforehand.

I looked at a Macan (and others), they are all very good cars and I can see the argument as to why many of them are technically superior, but that car, than package and that engine are just stunning.

Thanks Julian, really helpful. They have softened a fair bit, the one I went to see today was a late 2021 (New Interior) done 9000 miles and was up for £68k.

You're not wrong about the Macan, the head says just get a newer one with the shiny new interior, but reality is, spending what will be more money on the same thing I can't quite get my head over the line on that one. Plus the earlier Macans I think a nicer design than the new ones.

Yes, they have softened a bit, encouraging not hugely though. I did a spreadsheet and tracked prices in July/Aug last year (a spreadsheet...I am a nerd)

I tracked two 21-reg 2021 SVRs, both with a reasonable spec. One was 18k mileage, the other 9k. The 9k was £73,900 and dropped to £72,500. The 18k one was £71,000.

The 22-plate ones started at £77,000 and rose to £83,500 - hence why I snapped their hands off for a brand new 72-plate at £65k wink

Totally get your comments on Macan and buying the 'same car' - but they are lovely cars. A good friend has just got a Macan T and loves it, beautiful car. Another got a GTS in August and it's stunning, but it was well north of £80k.

Just don't drive the V8 unless you want to get hooked wink

£65k? Thats a lovely discount, and at that money new, I'd have to say a no brainer. I have just been to pick up the Macan after its had its work done, I mean just having it totally valeted makes a huge difference doesn't it.

I think I have pinned down to two though after having a good look around.

Heart says get the Jag you mad bd, head says, switch up to a Panamera Sport Turisimo as that's also a lovely thing to be in.

£75, not £65!! Sorry.

.....the Sport Tourismo is equally stunning!

While I quite like the Panamera Sport Turismo it seems like they’re the next price bracket up from an SVR for the equivalent age and performance.

I’d really be struggling to justify the Porsche as 1) It’s ‘just’ a Porsche (ten-a-penny) and 2) Both have great residuals so you can’t even use that as an argument to go for the German.

The SVR is unquestionably the better looking, unquestionably sounds better and is cheaper. For me the Jag is a no-brainer and I’m struggling to think of a car that delivers as much for the same money. I still love mine - the noise is hilarious!

Edit: Just to add, I paid £72k for mine in December ‘21. Should probably have waited a couple of weeks to register it in ‘22 but I was too excited! WBAC are currently offering £68k for it at 14 months old and 10,000 miles, so not too bad really. I suspect the very positive review from Harry Metcalfe might help values as well!

I test drove the 1988 edition, absolutely loved it. Currently run a RRS 4.4 diesel now 5 years old. Torn between a Panamera 4 e hybrid and 1988 edition, sensible hat says Panamera, especially as we enter greater regulation but heart says 1988.
