Just wondering if anyone has got an X Type Sport and what do they think of it.

Mine's a 2.5l in which I have done 12000 miles in 4 months.

Love: steering feel, engine sound, grip, traction, cranberry leather sport seats :-), looks, handling, customer service from dealers.

Could do better: build quality, brakes, equipment levels, fuel consumption, performance (2.5 does not feel like 194 bhp - not very torquey either).

On balance has far more soul and character than any of the immediate competition that I test drove.

Cheers
Nick

I've got the X-type Sport 3.0 litre manual. Quite nice. It is my daily driver and does everything quite well (though I have only had it since November)...

Piccie in my profile...

The X-Type is a perfect car every-bit as Jaguar as an XJ. The performance is quite rapid and the 4WD means fun at any speed. On the motorway you would think you were floating although there seems to be some road noise this is only amplified from the lack of anything else and with the sound system on a little its silent. The boot is perfect for everyday tasks but is no load lugger. The interior is spacious and you feel like part of the car. The accomodation is so good.Ive seen cars costing twice as much that dont have the same quality and style as this. The Dash is perfect!
The lack of standart equipment is a marketing thing.
What seperates the X-Type like all Jags from its/their competitors is that the Jag has Character, better handling and it has exactley what you want to feel right.
The Interior isnt the most spacious yet its the best to sit in and the dash isnt the clearest but its the best to use.Theres exactley the right amount of headroom and the right amount of bootspace to make the car feel perfect. Not too Much not to little. The Exterior is outstanding no matter what angle this looks a very serious car from very serious people.
And its Brittish - Its the Best

Oh By the way 2.5 is ok but trickle it off the line and nail it if you want to work the 4WD right

More ad-man's copy deleted.

I had a go in an 2.0 X type last week - a lot different
to my XJ8. Much firmer suspension, much more noise,
much smaller seats.

The boot is perfect for everyday tasks but is no load lugger.

No fold down back seats. Have you seen the size of the
boot in the X-type competitors - 3 Series & C class ?

The Dash is perfect!

Thanks for your opnion. I have a different opinion.

I'd happily swap all the character in the world for a car
that breaks down a lot less frequently.

The 2.0 will feel much more different to your car as its fwd and is very heavy but the 2.5 and 3.0 are much different as most of the power goes to the rear in the 4wd and they have a decent amount of power at that the 2.0 is a very different car.
How could you say the x-types dash isnt perfect it is only slightly different to your cars dash all Jags have a similar interior that theyve always had - it was right from the start.
Dont see where your getting at with the boot - its wide long and shallow.
The seats are slightly smaller but they arent like the school chairs you get in the competitors .The Jag supports you.
The ride is firmer in the sport but its still very smooth the 4wd gives a more edgy feel to the ride

I suggest you try a 2.5 or 3.0 before making any determinations. [And a High equipped one ]

I wouldn't call the bottom of the range 2.0 X type a
heavy car.

I don't think either the 2.5 or 3.0 have a decent amount
of power. Over 200 BHP - I think not.

Nonsense. The X type Jag has a totally different design
of dash to the XJ8.

Other cars do have better dashes. Mercedes Benz & BMW for
instance.

And smaller than any of the competition.

Thanks for the offer, but I don't think I'll bother. I think
my current XJ8 will be my first & last Jaguar.

M-B E320 next, I think. Can't face driving a BMW 530,
although they are probably very good cars.
