I do seem to remember when I was looking there was a difference on the VW site vs road tests when it came out.

If you have a fuel card who cares!

When I first got it the combination of DSG & ACC was quite something, but surprisingly you do quite quickly get use to it.

I don't have that, not sure if it's something on a R line only or on the latest GT's too.

Is it worth getting the activation code for the app connect?
Yes if you can find a dealer able to do it! It looks awesome and was only became available very recently - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ciqCutAO30

Cheers va1o, initially I contact my local Volkswagen dealership he didn't really know nothing. I then decided to tether the head unit to my iPhone (Works Phone) I registered for carnet online got the pin number entered into the head unit and it still don't give me any functionality on to the services!

In terms of the CO2 emissions i checked the vehicle documents and it is 113 not 110 as shown on the VW site. Must be an error.

So it now appears that this engine is caught up in the VW emissions problem. Doubt it means anything to us, but was thinking the petrols wouldn't be a problem.

I noticed that too!

One things for sure if it's simply that MPG doesn't meet their claim, we all know that!!

Can I ask which head unit is in your car? We have a Tiguan with Discover (basic one, not the Pro). Don't have CarPlay.

I got the iphone to connect via wifi and you get Google traffic flow on the sat nav which is really handy as the TMC VW uses is crap. However the 'phone doesn't seem to reconnect wifi automatically (it does reconnect the Bluetooth) so it's a right faff to connect it for every journey. Does yours reconnect itself?

I have the basic one too like you, I have noticed that it doesn't connect automatically. I have only been connecting on longer journeys.

I've been getting around 420-450 miles on a tank of petrol which isn't as good as my old 1.6tdi golf was, but then again that wasn't as much fun to drive. wink

Limitation with the Mk7 is the stupid 50 litre fuel tank hence the crap range that you'd expect out a supermini. The Mk5 and Mk6 had 55 litres. It's a big annoyance for me and I always end up running it right down

Hi I am getting around 400-450 out of a tank, nearly done 2000 miles in it now. I have noticed that when you drop the DSG lever down and put it in S mode that it revs too high on the engine (I know it is to maximise performance) but I prefer manually selecting gears when overtaking, theres still a fair bit of grunt lower in the rev range without getting the engine to scream.

Without overtaking I am getting from 45-52 miles to the gallon, if I am foot heavy then it drops do the 30-40 mark. Generally a combined average would work out at about 40-45 mpg which isn't too bad, the old 1.6 diesel mk 7 I had would get around 60-65 and could achieve nearly 600 on a tank :O. That didn't have the poke needed for overtaking really though. I haven't had a run longer than a hundred miles yet though.

Also I have noticed that on MP3 playback it is a little annoying when the songs finish early, has anyone managed to carry out a firmware update on their car or is this something only a VW dealer should do?

My MPG has dramatically improved, but I'd say it took 10k+ miles, from 44 to 47 average now at 25k miles, but the combination of my commute, work miles & the way I drive mean I get good MPG. Yesterday on a 90 mile each way route I got 47 one way & 53 back (round the M25), the morning one was due to traffic. I usually sit at 70-75 with ACC on. On 100+ miles journeys I'm always in the high 40's & it's not that rare with a few average speed camera sections to see 50+.

My old 1.6TDI A3 got low 50's on a tank, but there's simply no comparison, the Golf's like silk as compared to gravel! Yes, if you're heavy footed you can get much lower MPG, but I like that you can drive it sensibly, but when you want to a spirited drive is to be had.

Wondered why I was only getting 30-35 mpg recently, I had put the sport mode on the settings and it really does take a hammering on the MPG (I only got 320 miles on a tank), putting back across to Eco I am now back up to 45-50mpg and hopefully this tank will last a bit longer. Feeling a bit nippier now too nearly approaching 2500miles.

I've tried all 3 modes in our Leon FR and not noticed a lot of difference in economy, the only thing I really noticed was the throttle response being more sluggish in Eco mode particularly. Ours generally lives in Sport mode doing mostly 5-20 mile rural A road journeys and we still get mid 40s mpg.

Hi,

Currently looking at the 1.4 GTs in the Mk 6 Golf. Is the 140 version of this the old version of the 1.4 150 ACT that this thread is discussing?

The mk5/6 had a completely different series of engines:

Mk5 had 1.4 twin charge (turbo and supercharged) in 140bhp and 170 bhp versions.

Mk6 had 1.4 turbo with 125bhp and a later version of the 1.4 twin charge engine with 160bhp.

I'd be fairly careful buying any of the above as they all have their fair share of issues.

The current 1.4 tsi 140/150 engines from the mk7 golf are not related in any way

Other big difference is the mk5/ mk6 version is chain driven (unreliable) whereas the mk7 uses a 'lifetime' belt

I've just handed back a 1.4 TSI ACT estate (manual, granted not DSG as the OP is specifying, but still).

It had just ticked over 7000 miles. On my commute home, 28 miles, mix of A roads and motorway I could consistently achieve 50mpg (according to the readout) after the first couple of thousand miles were out of the way. That was with reasonable focus on anticipating traffic, letting stop/start do it's job, etc. Nothing extreme though. You will not be able to get a fair impression on a test drive, as you just won't have learned how to work with a particular car in the most efficient way yet.

On the times I spanked it over most of the journey, it could do down to low 30s. Long term average was 47.

Think of it as having the performance of an old 2 litre, but with a bit more low down torque, and it makes a reasonable noise. Given this, I think an achieveable 50mpg is great.

Comparing it to the quoted figures - of course cars don't quite match them. We all know how the tests are done, but this has been done to death on forums and is boring now.

Now approaching 22k with my 1.4 TSI no issues and still running fine, been in for the first service/oil change etc.

Hows everyone else getting on, any problems?

Our Leon has now done 47k miles and no issues other than a leaking radiator which was replaced quickly without any hassle. Average is late 40's mpg. The engine and car itself are great, although a couple of issues have come up recently which are getting looked at soon, a rattle in the instrument cluster and a cracked rear light, which is weird as it hasn't been hit, more of an internal crack.

I've read about self cracking lights on seatcupra.net
