25k on my 2014 A3 with the 140bhp version of this engine.

No problems at all. The engine still seems as refined as it did when new.

Reached 143mph according to sat nav on the autobahn last year.

Our Leon has now done 47k miles and no issues other than a leaking radiator which was replaced quickly without any hassle. Average is late 40's mpg. The engine and car itself are great, although a couple of issues have come up recently which are getting looked at soon, a rattle in the instrument cluster and a cracked rear light, which is weird as it hasn't been hit, more of an internal crack.
Jack, same here just about to turn 47k. My only real issue has been the rubbish throttle response which I bought up on the last service and again on the one last year, as ever with main stealers they simply fobbed me off.......

I record my MPG brim to brim on a spreadsheet, overall 45mpg.

Of most interest is the comparison I had with a non ACT 1.4 Golf which I had for three weeks or so last year, which I found very interesting. Firstly it was 10-15% more efficient, and this was despite it being a hire car and therefore often driven as one whilst I had it. Same type of journeys and commute and yet it consistently returned that 10-15% more. You won't be surprised to hear it has 120g/km, mine 110g/km with DSG, and so should be less efficient....

It seemed as quick as mine (122ps vs 148) but was significantly less tied down with lots more body role, inevitable given the ACT comes in GT spec only with lowered body/17's etc. What was most interesting was getting mine back, the engine is SO much smoother, the interior a lot better and the overall driving experience far more pleasant, worth it even if it's less efficient, bluemotion efficiency my a**e!!!

I've read about self cracking lights on seatcupra.net
Yes, and the dealer has agreed to replace both rear lights through warranty. Along with new rear boot struts that were struggling and the front suspension struts which were leaking and front ride had become a bit crashy. Would expect them to last more than 47k miles and Seat obviously agree.

I agree that the throttle response isn't that great, but I find that with most turbo cars. The Seat mii I had yesterday as a courtesy car had better throttle response for example. Interesting that the 122ps was more efficient, but then it is less powerful. To get back from the ACT you really need to be spending a lot of time at a constant speed.

At last someone else seems to agree the engine/DSG combo is an issue!

Apologies for bringing this one back from the dead but am going to view a 1.4TSI 150 at the weekend so this has come in very handy for research.

Glad I have found out about keeping clear of the earlier TSI engines, the 150 seems much less of a long term risk in terms of major engine issues.

Thanks thumbup

I’d forgotten all about this thread! As the OP my old company one which I had for 4.5 years & 86k miles was superb, so competent it was a bit dull but as a daily it was great.

If I was in the market for one I’d happily get another.

If you look at a 64 plate dark blue one with the light shetland interior (a rare combo) let me know, could be my old one!

Dark blue but grey interior I’m afraid!

Impressive little engine I must say, seems like a perfect all rounder in a Golf.

For what I used it for it was superb, I recorded 46mpg over those 86k miles. You’d think that tiny engine would be a bit rubbish for long journeys but I frequently did 100-300 miles for work in a day, it was like a sewing machine.

Makes my daily Fiesta ST seem like what it is, far more engaging but often a pain as simply a car!

Exactly my thoughts, whilst it’s not ‘fun’, it’s just really good at being a dependable, comfortable daily driver.

If that’s what you want it for & that’s the mindset you go into it with it’s superb.

Part of my old commute was across some great B roads & it was surprisingly enjoyable, that light MQB chassis kept the kerb weight light, as did the tiny engine over the nose, it could be hustled when needed.

I’d then got onto the next 15 miles on dual carriageway and fast A roads stick on the adaptive cruise & relax.

I think I must’ve done circa 40k on cruise, it wasn’t perfect but made those long work days into the midlands & north much easier.
