The Golf R lease thread

I have had two cars with DSGs and neither have had the issue you speak of other than my B8 S4 (yes it's called stronic and is a different box but is a VAG double clutcher) and it did what you speak of when the mechatronic unit was broken and only then. My mk 5 Golf Gti with DSG was flawless however I drove it. My parents had an A3 that had the DSG (back when Audi called it that too IIRC) and it was always well behaved. One thing though that is maybe worth contemplating is that I believe neither gearbox I had have been reliable long term, have they changed the box (or software) to change how it acts in a hope to add longevity? The boxes I had were 08 (Golf) and 10 (S4) model years so probably a lot has changed since then. Also worth noting Audi seem to have canned the longitudinal Stronic for high powered models, like the S4 and S5 which did used to have them. Possibly something amiss there too?
Hi everyone
I've placed my order for a 7.5 5 door dsg hatch. Should be delivered mid June. First time leasing and coming from a mk7 fiesta st.
Dont think I got the best deal in the world, but certainly not the worst and it works for me. I could have waited and waited for a cheaper deal but lifes too short for that.
Its a 'poverty spec' only options being dsg and 5 doors.
3 years
8k mileage pa
1230 upfront
350 a month
full term road tax included
Excess mileage 8ppm
Going to be a long couple of months, but from what I remember from the test drive its going to worth it!

Anyone started looking at GAP Insurance yet?
I have put the value of the car at £34000.
ALA - come back with cover of £15000 needed (suggested) and if I include initial deposit it comes out at £152 which seems rediculous to me.
Anyone had any dealings with totallossgap.co.uk? They are coming out at £99 including up to £3000 initial rental cover.

I got GAP insurance on my R Estate from ALA and it was about £60 if I remember correctly (including cover of initial deposit) - they initially told me around £150 but I mentioned there was a Pistonheads discount and they honoured it (can't remember who arranged this, it's probably mentioned way back in this thread, or the normal Lease Deals thread) - this is going back to October last year but it might be worth mentioning....I have put the value of the car at £34000.

I am well aware how gap insurance works but considering I paid about £50 6 years ago when I got cover for £10k for 4 years this seems high for only two years for only £5k extra cover.I know insurance premium tax has gone up but even VW own GAP they offered me was not much over what ALA have quoted!
I am only doing research - if you enjoy paying higher prices for everything feel free, but I don't!

I arranged this with GAP123, probably around page 60 in the thread. Glad people are using it to their advantage Edited by JohnStitch on Wednesday 3rd May 10:48
I just got an update from the Lease company saying the "Factory Ordered Estimated Build Week" has moved to Week Commencing Monday May 22, 2017.
Which is a bit disappointing as I had this before:
"Factory Ordered Confirmed Build Week:
Week Commencing Monday May 08, 2017"
It's not a big problem for me as I don't have a car that needs to go back at anytime, but I wondered if anyone else had received a similar communication?

I have the same build week (Monday) and have not had any communication from my dealer (went direct) and my VW App still says build starts on the 8th.Which is a bit disappointing as I had this before:

well vw chat is down so maybe thats all us R owners checking on our cars!
Would be ideal if it came early as have quite a few longish runs with a bit of cross country driving thrown in so would help break in the golf a bit and also get me use to the car.
Although the 10 weeks I was quoted works very well with my insurance running out.

quite a few on the GTI lease thread are having there cars moved back - so much for the deal saying they had to be registered by 30th June. One guy was quoted October for his build slot which seems ridiculous!
If the cars going to keep being put back can see some cancelled orders coming up, I am having the golf r instead of the S5 sport back - as thought I would save some money!
But no way am I waiting till July / August time for delivery.

just VW chatted for the first time.
So car is scheduled for next week production, however this can take up to two weeks (not sure why a car build would take two weeks but anyway). Usually about 6-8 weeks after production to get to VW retailer in UK.
Per chat
I have checked your order details and I can see that your vehicle's
production will commence in Week 19, which is next week. Production can take anywhere up to 2
weeks and once this is complete, it can take up to 6-8 weeks for your vehicle to arrive at your local
Volkswagen Retailer.
