The Golf R lease thread
Discussion
I think the delivery driver's 39.1 was him nursing it along at 65 - 70 for a 250 mile motorway trip. It is a DSG estate and he had it in ECO. I've done some local miles and it's falling fast. Currently reads 32.1 average which is a mix of town and local faster roads but that figure is still heavilly skewed by the long steady delivery run. I've found even in ECO there are times when it's felt like it could hold a higher gear, I've knocked it up to 6th using the paddle when it's been holding 5th. It feels like it could handle another gear at motorway speeds for overdrive, the engine has the torque for it so I guess that's why the facelift has a 7sp DSG. It's nice to know I might scrape a 40mpg motorway run if I really wanrted to, but I rather doubt I will.

First long run today down to Cornwall. What an astonishingly good mile muncher it is! Effortless to drive, haven't worked out how to use the ACC yet.
Any tips? Tried pressing set and it said acc active, took my foot of the accelerator and nothing?
You needs to set speed then the distance.Any tips? Tried pressing set and it said acc active, took my foot of the accelerator and nothing?

Nothing as in the cruise didn't engage, or was the car just slowing to get to the correct distance behind the car in front?Any tips? Tried pressing set and it said acc active, took my foot of the accelerator and nothing?
You should see a green arrow on the edge of the speed display when it's set.

Also, if you've a car in front of you the Radar sensor will slow you to their speed.

Odd question, but does anyone know about the trip meter and what number it will go up to?
I've not reset it since getting the car, so the trip matches the total (weird, I know).
I'm worried that when I get it serviced, they'll reset it out of spite/just because they will...
So I don't know if it will roll over to 10,000 or reset at 10k...

On the flip side the used market is started to get flooded with Golf R's, so thats another option
"Flooded" - Where?Only 2 pages of results for "Golf R" on Autotrader (and half those aren't even Rs! )

I cant see how you wouldn't think the market would be flooded since there are (or have been) a lot of them on lease. The thing I think that is silly about it is that they make you pay in full for the options on the cars, when most people looking for a 2 year old used Golf R would be wanting a bit of spec on them (Blue with 19"s I would imagine, with nav) rather than them being bog standard.
Vw went totally bonkers and I hope they go bonkers again.
It won't stop me getting a new golf r, I think it is unbeatable, but it is something to ponder if you want a 2 year old car to do a stage 2 upgrade on or, walk into a dealer fishing for a juicy discount on a minter.

Certainly plenty up for sale but most base spec, I'm looking for a decent coloured 3dr with the 19's and maybe a couple of other desirable options not masses out there.
I noticed the same, plus, anything with a few options on soon goes up a few quid too. I'm thinking 5dr, DSG, 19's and nav. Anything else is a bonus. CaptainMorgan said:

Due to heavy rain I've not had a proper chance to take it for a drive but the short run I did last night was fun.
Coming from an EP3 I don't think it will be as much fun to chuck about but straight-line speed, confort, gadgets, interior etc make up for it. I think I might miss the EP3's economy
My only gripe is trying to sort the front seat out. I can't seem to locate the front right and front centre adjusters?

Mine recently reset itself at 10k miles. Mine wasn't running exactly with the car's total mileage as it had been reset for delivery to me. However, that was quite useful as it was showing exactly what mileage I had done so far during the lease.I've not reset it since getting the car, so the trip matches the total (weird, I know).
