The Golf R lease thread
Discussion
I am getting closer and closer to pulling the trigger on a Mk 7.5 R Estate if I find the right deal come Jan/Feb.
Requirements for a more practical car are on the horizon and the Z3 will need to go!
How are people getting on the with their estates?
They seem to be highly reviewed across the board and certainly on paper sound wonderful. Currently waiting for my local VW to find me one to test drive - which is proving harder than first thought.

Had mine since June this year and it's great, plenty fast enough, handles well, loads of room and practical. Only thing I would add would be a climate screen but I wasn't able to specify any options.Requirements for a more practical car are on the horizon and the Z3 will need to go!

Yeah I've just been chatting to Stable and they implied they are expecting to run out of cars in the next week or two.
Could deliver my spec'd car anytime between March and June to suit if i ordered before then.
I imagine my wife will want to test drive one before I ordered which would prove nigh on impossible...

Just go to your nearest VW dealer and drive any Golf Estate - They're all the same, right? Could deliver my spec'd car anytime between March and June to suit if i ordered before then.

She used to have a Z4MC so is sadly a bit more aware of what is what!M
I'm half tempted to place the order and then worst case cancel on it before delivery if circumstances changed.

Whats the real benefit to the climate screen? It wasn't one of the options I am currently thinking of!I am currently thinking of:
- Keyless Entry
- Rear View Camera
- Side / Rear Airbag System
- Lane Assist Plus inc. Dynamic Light Assist
- Dynamic Chassic Control
- Dynaudio Excite Soundpack
in Tornado Red as that is what I would have gone for and fortunately what my wife requested!

It means you don't have to spend ages scraping off the ice in the morning during the Winter!I am currently thinking of:

Ahhh ok.A friend of mine in car sales has started the debate in my head of how do you justify a lease as you spend money and end up with nothing at the end.
What man maths do I need to pull off to justify to myself spending effectively £20k over 4 years at 8k miles P/A on a shiny Golf R Estate that I rather want.
I mean on paper it sounds rediculous, but I guess you end up having the use of a new car for x years. What're the other benefits?
I think the Golf R estate that I have ordered comes with a free winter pack which I assume includes heated front screen?
If you are adding extras to a lease then the man maths for a lease start to fall apart and you might be better off buying a 2nd hand one with all the options already in place. I'd recommend NOT adding any extras if you are leasing and trying to keep the costs to about £7.6K over 2 years (incl metallic paint).
I don't understand your point that leasing costs £20K over 4 years? The PCH deal should be nearer £7.6K over 2 years and just over £11K over a 3 year period should you extend the deal. This will be less than the depreciation in you bought privately. Yes if you are PCP'ing and adding lots of extras then you will NOT be getting great value afaik.

Winter pack is just heated seats and I think heated washer jets.
Have to say if you're wanting it for 4 years and a load of expensive options PCP may be better - there are still decent discounts for buying one. DTD price with that paint and options is £33239.
VW calculator (48 months, no options, 10k pa so should be a bit higher) gives GMFV of £12406 so I don't think there'd be much in it even if you did hand back at 4 years.

If you want all these options, a lease is not for you. The total cost is normally added to the lease, making them really poor value. Leasing is best when you go for base spec. I am currently thinking of:

Pretty sure my R came with a heated windscreen as standard?
Yes, that button directs air from the HVAC through the vents at the bottom of the windscreen. The "max" one below does that too, it just does it on full and when you press it again it reverts to previous settings.
The "Climate windscreen" is: Wireless electrically conductive layer in glass laminate. In winter, accelerates defrosting and prevents fogging. In summer, reflects solar radiation to reduce interior temperature.
i.e. the screen glass heats up itself, like the Ford Quickclear ones.

Can i ask what the golf r estate is like.in the Snow and ice please? We live in Scotland and dont want to be stuck. Appreciate Winter tyres would be needed as well?
Mine was great, coped well and never got stuck! Admittedly it’s more how you drive regardless of car to a degree and we only had a couple of inches! (Giggidy)Gassing Station | Audi, Seat, Skoda & VW | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
