The very first thing I'd do is use the likes of Car Wow and Drive The Deal to establish what sort of discount you should be getting. VW discount the base price of the car, so look at that and then work out the cost of the options you want. Current deposit contribution is £1500, and Drive The Deal are indicating a discount of £5800 (including the £1500 contribution).

It sounds like there was some discount in the quote they gave you because the finance calculator shows a monthly of £606 (£1k in, 10000 miles, 36 months).

Personally I'd lease and just option metallic paint – http://www.freedomcontracts.com/Volkswagen-Golf-2....

Does anyone have any experience of getting out of leased R early? I'm only paying £227 a month for mine and have a year left. I seem to remember its 50% of the remaining payments?

VWFS told me I would have to pay 55% of remaining payments if terminating lease early.

Anybody seen any good stock car deals? Kew Vehicle Leasing had an offer of £289 on 9+23 + £200 fee up for a few days but it's disappeared now. Slim picking at the moment

That's pretty much the deal I went for with Kew. Tim was fine to deal with although watch the numbers don't change between quote and what you get on the lease docs..

I added metallic and went fully-maintained @ £311 inc per month; I figured a new set of tyres would be 3x the cost of the maintenance so a bit of a no-brainer.

I'm a little gutted I wasn't in a position to take advantage of some of the insane deals a year or two ago but as you say, you can only go with what's available at the time. I'm very pleased with mine overall.

8k, but it seems I underestimated a bit so will probably see if I can renegotiate to 10k at the end of the first year. If not I'll just pay any overages at the end of the term. The car is through Arval.

Inspection booked for today and the service reminder comes on for service in 30 days. I assume this is okay? As it's not actually due?

Officially had my golf a year today.

Insurance renewal just through - £500 for the eyar - last year was £496 - so not too bad, can get slightly cheaper so its haggle time.

I officially did 10,004 under me - so pretty much bang on the 10k a year that I am paying for - although car will be doing less mileage this year - probably nearer 9k.

So far my average mpg has been about 32 - lots of long runs in that - am takign the car to Spa circuit (to watch not go round the track) - so hopefully get to stretch its legs a bit via germany on a autobahn.

Just have to get my letter from VW incase I get pulled over as obviously don't own the car due to a lease.

Also Aviva changed my insurance, so it says a company owns the car, and the driver it says personal lease - I guess this is correct? As in VWFS is the company that own the car, and me having a personal lease.

ANy insurance bods? Interesting on Direct Line they don't ask this question (on direct line website) so my insuranc eis only £400 with them - plus about 50 quid for driving europe - bit of a result!

I'm 800 miles in after 3 weeks so too early to gauge average MPG. I think it'll be lower than my 335d Touring..... although I don;t care. The 335d was abut 39MPG over 22500 miles. 41 - 42 on a run & 37 around town.

My insurance is 496 for a 16 plate Kia Sportage and the R, so 250 each car, although the excess is 500 on the R!

One question, with yours being a lease car like mine, did you get GAP insurance?

I'm with Aviva (actually through 'QuoteMeHappy.com') and mine says:

Vehicle Owner: Leased - Private
Registered Keeper - Proposer

Arval confirmed I'm on the V5 as "My Name - c/o Arval" so yours should be the same with your lease co? Arval hold the V5.

I did get gap - some said not bother - I got it mainly so my deposit I would get back, deposit was about 1300 ish.

My excess is 250 with direct line, I guess I could change it to make it cheaper still.

Excess sounds reasonable; my compulsory went from £150 to £330 when I switched from my E46 330Ci to the R. Adding a voluntary made next to no difference to the policy price overall so left that at £0. My policy is £400/yr from memory.

I have 3 months remaining on my insurance policy and changed from the 335 to the R.... so nothing I can do about the change in excess, until renewal.
They refunded me 6.50 on the premium though!?

I'm still contemplating the GAP but need to read up on it. Not sure of the price over 24 months. My deposit was 1160.00

Mine (R estate) went back today (BCA collection were late but the inspection was very easy)....

Great car for 2 years/23,659 miles @36.5MPG which I think is pretty respectable.

No tyres, no brands, just one service and total cost for 2 years of only £6,100 - I can only hope another good deal comes along sometime.....

I took GAP on mine through ALA, figured it was worth it in the event of total loss - the initial rental would a pain to pay twice in a short period of time...

Is it just the initial rental that you would have to pay? in the event of a total loss?......not the remaining monthly rentals until the contract end?
