Nice. I reckon mine's higher as I'm only an 8k/yr contract and any excess miles will have a greater effect on the residual for them.

Well, worth getting a few extention quotes, i didnt realise they altered them all the time due to market conditions. 12 month extention 280/month for 10k miles. Cheaper than getting a new one.

Don't know if its true or not - but there was someone who rang up every month for a quote - picked the cheapest one and sent them documents back - I can ring up from january 19 - so will be - quite fancy taking the car to germany again for our holiday in August - as my contract finishes in June will need a extension.

Depending on quotes could just do the 3 month extension then wave the car goodbye.

I certainly don't need a car like the r baring in mind during the week I am in stop start traffic - hence having to get my oil changed at 13k miles (car told me).

As you know, we got our cars at the same time and I've just had my oil changed at exactly the same miles. I might not need a Golf R but certainly like driving it and it does come in handy at times with the big boot. I will get an extension for another year if possible as I would need to spend a lot more on something else to get the same or more performance. All depends on what they come back to with quotes. Didn't know about January so I will enquire then as well, cheers.

How many months prior to the end of the lease do you guys start checking out extensions?

Is there any rhyme or reason as to when good deals rear their heads?

I have a GTD estate which is due to go back in 2 months time. I love the car and it has 13,500 on the clock.

This is my first lease which I took out Dec-16 as it was much cheaper than having as a company car.

The market was a lot different back then so I'm going to ask for a quote to extend.

Just filled in the form asking for a purchase price, £16,500. Seems pretty decent as similar cars on auto trader are at least £1k more.

I'm a little worried about what the price would be for the r considering petrol is now flavour of the month and the new emission regs will mean not many R's around. I am hoping its quite a nice rate

Cheers. Just thinking ahead; if ordering something new factory build then any lead time needs to be taken into account too so was wondering when was appropriate to think about extending rather than choosing something new. I'm only 9 months into my lease so will probably think about options in the middle of next year, I'll also have more of an idea of what my total/final mileage will likely be.

Standard practice. I received a letter from VW advising the same when I was 6 months away from the end of my previous Audi A4. It must have some impact on getting people to sign up for new leases with them, or else they'd not do it. smile

I have 8 months left - started 6/6/17. But yeah would get another lease if there were some good deals!

I am paying just over £300 p/m for my R which is due to go back in January. I asked for a 1 year extension and their offer was just over £400 p/m. I will be a couple of thousand miles over on the mileage but even so, not a very attractive deal i'm sure you'll agree. So its going back.

Thats what I am worried about! Rate being stupidly high - hoping VW sort out there WLTP stuff.

i assume as its against policy to remap a car on PCP that a used one off lease would be a good second hand buy (stock not tuned and maybe not (less) abused?)

yeah I can only imagine that someone who has effectively rented a 300 bhp hot hatch won't rag the tits off it.

Personally I'd look for a car with a few options that was more likely not a lease. I'm sure there are many many lease vehicles out there though that haven't been abused though.

Mine will be one of those - I don't get why anyone abuse the car they drive just because they only have it for a couple of years.

I totally agree. I look after the cars I lease in exactly the same way I look after the cars I own. They get properly run in, lovingly washed once every couple of weeks, paintwork gets protected etc etc. My last Golf R when back absolutely spotless, as did the GTI before that.
