Well 1,800 miles in and I'm loving it !!!! Fast enough , comfortable, practical , looks great ( subjective I know) , nice toys and more importantly a great price ! What's not to love?! Gonna really struggle to keep the mileage down as I enjoy driving it so much . Glad I opted for the manual as well !

Wife's new car arrived on Friday:

The car was ordered through CVL in October. It was one of their special offer deals. (£252/month on a 1+23 with 10K miles pa). It has been ready for delivery since the end of December but her existing lease didn't end until March. Dealer kindly agreed to delay delivery of the new car. Bonus is that it was registered on a 17 plate last week.

I clocked up 250 miles over the weekend. First impressions are excellent! I will be looking for opportunities to drive it more.
That's really what the prices were, bonkers?!

Anyone else had 'fun' with the satnav. I had to go to Torcross in the week , usual route is A38 then Totnes - Kingsbridge - Torcross. I pressed fastest route and by sheer luck only had one other car to negotiate coming from the other direction as it chose to send me mainly along single track farm lanes through Loddiswell,Sherford and Ledstone. On the plus side it did save me 25 minutes compared to the journey home on conventional route and I had a blast as it really is a point and squirt 5 door pocket rocket. I saw a fellow 66 plate cousin ,also white, parked in Loddiswell and one friendly wave from a complete stranger obviously thinking I was in said car.
Similar satnav situation coming home from Heathrow yesterday when it decided my route should be via A303 when M4/M5 is the obvious route , I took the later on this occasion.
Am I missing something in settings or is the satnav pants. I'm off for a stint in Europe next month so may have to get the carplay activated and use an app if it is always going to be unconventional.

After my initial disappointment with the car , mainly the DSG, I am 3.5k in and now really liking my new van.

Yes I've had the same "fun" with the sat nav sending me down all sorts of strange routes, including driving on to a woodland estate!? Must be a different option in the menu, mine is diefinitly not set to fastest route as the crow flys..

Generally i find the routing to be pretty good, the internet traffic when linked to a hotspot is excellent.

I find the ETA a tad optimistic. It almost sounds like avoid motorways is ticked but I guess the mapping database thinks that 60 is achievable on those twisty back roads.

Dry warm road today, had a mini Grand Prix at set of traffic lights - its bloody good at putting power down in decent conditions.

If travelling from Heathrow to the Exeter area or beyond I would suggest the A303 is as quick and far more interesting, especially in something like a GTI!

I've managed to get some decent mpg out of the gti this weekend on my travels.
I took this picture on route to Bordeaux. The figures include sitting in the ferry port for 40 minutes waiting to clear French border control with stop/start deactivated. I stuck to the 110km limit most of the route only getting enthusiastic when a Frenchie led the way. Judging by their braking, they hopefully ,know camera placements.
After the satnav again did its utmost worst by routing me through Bordeaux on GOOD FRIDAY my mpg had dropped to 39 but still good going.

so the sat nav seems a bit pants then!

Might have to go back to my tom tom! I have a astra (11 plate) and to be honest the sat nav in that is pretty good, might be a case of keep the sat nav handy and see what the sat nav in the golf does.

I've had no luck with the sat nav either. Very annoying you can't search by postcode. I did just notice mine was set to most direct route which would explain some of the strange routes it's taken me. Haven't used it since I've switched it to fastest route so will have to report back.

MPG seems good still on the long term.

All in all still happy with it, still tempted with some VWR alloys and lowering springs but holding off for now.

How to use postcode navigation

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aO2To31roQ

There’s usually more than one way to get where you’re going. It might be necessary to know alternate routes because of construction or traffic. If you’d like your navigation system to suggest alternate routes automatically, click Setup in the lower right side of the touchscreen. Then press Route Options on the touchscreen and check the box next to “Suggest 3 alternative routes.” Now you can compare three options by estimated time and distance. The most economical route will be in blue, the fastest route in read, and the shortest route in orange.

Postcode entries are hidden pretty well. My neighbour has had his golf for 2 years and never knew either. I can't remember which but when you press either town or street a box appears in bottom left corner ' pstcde' or similar. Press it and up pops postcode entries.
It found all 3 postcode destinations I entered in France and Spain so it is accurate.
Unfortunately on outskirts of Bordeaux there were delays on the motorway of 6 miles so it decided to divert me. I didn't realise this until too late as it repeatedly said delays but no alternative routes found. VW truly cocked up on supplier of this system. In the end I zoomed into the map and took my own route out of trouble. The system seems to favour the narrowest of streets instead of major roads or even B roads.
I've tried all the nav settings , I have now ticked dynamic route option as well as suggest 3 routes. Not sure how to change nav settings/info to kmh/ distance in km but have set driving data to kmh so I have it in centre of dials. I've set lights to rh driving but the spread is piss poor. Even on motorway last night I was struggling to see. Full beam though is amazing.

Tyres are so much better in the warmer climate , it really does grip the road.

Seen plenty of gtd's and couple of R's but no other Gti in 1500 miles.

Time to get the manual out and do more reading about this satnav.

Hi - has anyone had any issues where the VW order tracker displayed the wrong colour paint? If so, was the tracker right or wrong in the end?
