I don't know if they check it, but that's what the inspection manual says IIRC. If you out decent tyres on it you'll be ok. If you put £40 a corner ones on they'll charge you I reckon.
Yeah completely agree - it was just a thought as there are alternative premium options which sometimes have promotions or discounts.

Has anyone had any 6/12 month extension formal quotes yet?

I rang up the other day but was advised to ring back on the 30th as they can only quote you when you are into the last 6 months of the lease.

I know someone mentioned on here that the quote can change daily/weekly so I queried that but I was told it changes monthly...

I got this reply to my enquiry as to the options for extending.

"Thank you for contacting Volkswagen Financial Services.

Regarding you recent enquiry, we offer two separate options to extend your agreement.

We offer the option to extend the agreement if you were awaiting delivery of a new vehicle. We refer to this as an informal extension which is a short term option.

We are able to extend your agreement for 3 months if you wish to extend longer than this we would require an order number for the new vehicle, as long as this was within the VW Brand Group (VW,Audi,SEAT,SKODA), we would then be able to extend up until you take delivery of the new vehicle.

Throughout the term of this extension your monthly rental amount will remain the same and we will continue to bill for this via Direct Debit and you will provided a pro rata mileage allowance throughout also. You are able to return the vehicle back to us at any point of this extension and any unused days will be reimbursed back to yourself.

The second option is referred to as a formal Extension. With this extension, the agreement can be carried on for 6 or 12 months and this involves a contractual rewrite so your monthly rental amount may be subject to change.

If you wish to request a quote please supply he following information.

Agreement in the Name of:

Full address and Postcode:

Monthly payment amount

Full length of Agreement:

Extension Length:

Current Vehicle Mileage:

New Total Mileage:

Email Address:

Once this information has been received, a quote will be sent out to you within 7-10 working days. The quotes are free and non-obligational however if you wish to go ahead please returned the signed paperwork back to us by email or by post and there will be an administration fee of £60 that we will look to take via Direct Debit."

An S5 question from a techno-idiot (although not lease related) after starting my car up this morning in the cold weather..... the car has 4 exhaust tailpipes, so why is it that all the exhaust was coming out of the left hand pipe of the right hand exhaust??

The exhaust system has valves in it. Different modes open different valves. Only way I know of to get all open is to be in Dynamic on drive select and Sport on gearbox.

In regards to tyres does anyone know if the exact same tyres (brand/model) have to be handed back with the car?

I am need of some replacement tyres so shopping around hence the question. I know S5's have been delivered with different tyres so thinking it can't be an issue? Also when handing back my last lease (Golf R) the inspection did not involve checking the brand/model of tyre, only the tread depth.

Just to add - I'm not suggesting we hand it back with budget tyres of course but does it matter if its Continental/Dunlop/Pirelli/Michelin etc

I've just replaced all mine after 11500 miles. I phoned Audi and they gave me a list of manufacturers... Continental (which is what it had originally), Michelin, Dunlop, Goodyear, Pirelli and Firestone. Thought the last one was very odd...

I plumped for Goodyear Eagles Asymmetric 3.. done about 200 miles on them so far and very impressed.

S4 was delivered with Hankooks on. So if you see them and they’re cheap and it’s going back, fill your (wellington) boots.

I’ve just replaced my fronts due to a single unrepairable puncture but thought best to change both as only around 3mm left. Phoned lease co to check and was told any brand ok just need to be the same rating. I went with Falkens at £126 each.

For those of us that took delivery of our lease deals in late March/April 2017, what are everyone's thoughts in terms of the replacement vehicle when the car inevitably goes back?

I've read a few of the comments on this thread and like everyone as I can't see anything that really jumped out at me in terms of lease deals over the last few months. I very nearly ordered the I-pace, but having looked at the basic specification I just didn't like it and the cost of the extra along with the additional mileage over and above the base deal pushed the price beyond a reasonable increase in my opinion.

I'm currently considering a straight purchase of either an M4 or Boxster and then moving it on after a year. I have even given serious consideration to an early Aston Martin Vantage. I figure that if I'm careful with my purchase I will probably lose somewhere in the same region (or less) Then I would do with the deposit and then monthly payments on a lease and still at least enjoy the car and driving it - anyone else got any other thoughts?

Having said all this, I have been surprisingly pleased with the Audi, it has been really good car over the last year-and-a-half.

Hahaha, I havent a clue. I keep flirting with Golf R estates, Volvos, Arteons but none are cheap enough for me to want to take the compromise vs the S5, or nice enough to make the price worth going for. Thing is, I really want the S5 to go back in April to avoid tyres and a service. I am going to wait and see what happens but lead times on some stuff is beyond March now.

I got a couple of quotes today for an extension:

6 months and 25k miles in total - £340+vat
12 months and 30k miles in total - £370+vat

I was contracted 20k miles in total which the above includes so its basically 5k extra for 6 months and 10k extra for 12 months.

Not bad? Trying to calc maintenance is a bit tricky hoping my tyres last! I called them today,) as I want to extend at this point it was deemed best to call to do the free 3 months informal in Jan (3 months before hand back) and then at this time get a 6 month formal quote. Knowing that I am in the 3 warranty period too. Kinda fancy a x3 m40i next or rs5 sportback. Prob is I don’t think I can get anywhere near the value of this lease. I think if you get a VAG order number you can keep lease as long as is needed too until switchover.

I was hoping it would be a lot cheaper but that wasn't based on anything and just purely wishful thinking lol I will keep ringing to check every month though as apparently that's when the prices can change, although it could just as easily go up or down!

I agree - with what's on offer at the moment its not a bad price at all. There is no upfront payment and I can't remember seeing any 'better' car on offer for circa £400 a month.

Yeah I also read that if you have a VAG car on order you can stay in this until it arrives which by the looks of things could be a while.

My first S5 would of been due back in two months but the one I have now isnt up on its lease till July 19 - I will definately be trying to extend for a further 12 months though but as a minimum will do the 3 month informal. I really like the car, my spec is good and lease deals in the past 12 months bar S4 deals have been poor when it comes to a comparable car.
I too fancy an RS5 Sportback at some point but Audi (and VAG) are all over the place at the moment with WLTP. Hard to believe that RS5, RS4, S4, S5 and SQ% models have all been unavailable to order for a good few months now and there is no idea when they will be back. This must be really hurting Audi and given that the M3 has gone Mercedes must be getting some business for the luke warm and full fat AMG C class models.

Not sure of my man maths but putting off an initial deposit payment is nice too. My plan will defo go for 3 months informal at same rate (337) and then pull trigger on 6 months having a 9 month extra period in total. Maybe look for a VAG lease or pcp in that window.

smile I didn’t know about the testing delays. Could improve the used residuals by cutting supply Increasing demand thus lowering our lease refreshes quotes (I live in hope hehe) as the depreciation will be lower. Man maths king here smile
