Another YouTube vid here with an opportunity to hear the S5 through the gears from inside.

https://youtu.be/i8a74oD_m-I

It's in German so go to 23 mins for the interesting bit if you won't understand the rest of the audio.

Someone mentioned in the lease thread that they wouldn't go for the S5 due to the torque converter 'box but it's a good one (basically the same 8-speed ZF that's in my current BMW) and it looks like they've got the changes programmed to mimic a DCT quite closely - something I think Audi previously didn't do as well as BMW, from experiencing friends' cars.

It doesn't seem unacceptably 'slushy' to me, from what the video can get across. We will find out for sure when the cars get delivered...

If the new model is similar to the old one electronically you can retrofit HHA for not much money. Cost of the switch and running a couple of wires to the ABS module under the bonnet. Not much point on a lease car, clearly, but thought I'd mention in case anyone is buying and can't live without it.

The big difference this time around is the ZF box rather than s-tronic - you're unlikely to find as many situations where the car might move when you don't want it to when you've got a proper auto. With the s-tronic on a steep slope it was often the only time you'd leave the parking brake on and allow the car to release it itself, as it prevented the heart-in-the-mouth potential of the car going the 'wrong' way to start with while the clutch pack sorted itself out!

Are there deals on cabs or just coupe and sportback cars?

These deals are on the 2017 new shape car that hasn't hit the showrooms yet, so far they've only launched the coupe and sport back versions.

Hi there,

Just seen this thread.. - Have also gone for the new S5 Sportback lease deal. all approved and confirmed, but need to finalise the spec ready for 1st thing Monday - and having a few last minute wobbles regarding options (vs monthly cost).

I know the sensible route is to minimise the options on a lease deal, but as usual my list of "must have's" to "nice to have" is blurring somewhat.. wink

I've deliberated over the colour, as sensible head says black, but as I've had a few black Audis (currently have a Black/Black A7 BE BiTdI), so fancy something different, and have decided (I think) on Navarra Blue with Rotor Grey seats.

Weirdly I've always gone black seats previously, but think the grey will lift the interior and hopefully go well with the Blue exterior..

Biggest issue I have is equipment options.

Currently have specced:

Virtual Cockpit
Flat Steering Wheel
Folding/Heated Mirrors
Hill Hold
Privacy Glass
B&O Sound

The above adds around £83/month + another £21/month to go to 12k/year onto the standard monthly.

Ideally looking to shave £30/month off (without increasing my upfront from 6 months).

Obviously the Met paint & the B&O are the highest cost items, so can anyone let me know if the standard Concert Sound is any good or not? Ive always had Bose previously and don't want flat black or white, so somethings gotta give confused

Last niggle is whether the privacy glass will look good or not against the blue as always been on black previously..?!

All thoughts/ suggestions welcomes I'm now going round in circles and thinking its probably not worth stressing about for £30/ month to get my "ideal(ish)" spec.. :-)

Stick with the colour scheme or play safe, junk any of the options or drop to £10k/year to reduce the £21/month and pay at the end - Man maths at its best... laugh

For me it would be:

Virtual Cockpit - yes
Flat Steering Wheel - no
Folding/Heated Mirrors - yes
Hill Hold - no (not needed IMHO)
Privacy Glass - no
B&O Sound - yes (but only if you can justify the monthly cost)

Interesting, cheers for that.

My initial impression was that the flat wheel made the interior a bit more sporty (a la RS), but will have another look.

Binning the Priv glass & Hill hold would be £450 towards the B&O @ £750 and after a quick calc gets me almost at my Man math monthly budget of £450..

Anyone know if the standard Concert system is any good at all? - all my experiences to date of standard car audio when tested (Audi/BMW/Merc) has been pretty poor.

I'm hoping B&O would also be an improvement over Audi Bose, as IMO its good, but not great..

We've got B&O in our B8 S5 Sportback, but in that it was a tiny additional cost. It's a very decent system and better than the Bose in my much older S8. It should be possible to find a B9 demo car locally by now with one of the choices, which would at least allow you to decide if you can live with the standard setup?

Flat bottom wheels do nothing for me in 'sportiness' terms - for me they should only be fitted to tiny cars where knee space is an issue. I drove a C6 RS6 last weekend and the nicest thing I can say about the flat bottom steering wheel in that is that it didn't annoy me unduly. I've driven other cars with them and hated them - reminds me of 70s Allegros with quartic steering wheel!

If you really like the flat bottomed wheel, buy one off ebay in a few months time and swap it onto your car and return to stock when the car goes back smile

I'd been deliberating over options too before placing my order. I was also thinking about going Navarra blue but in the end went for solid black.

I've also gone for the flat bottom steering wheel, virtual cockpit and hill hold. Was very close to opting for folding mirrors then decided against it as I have it on my current car but it's not really a necessity (It should be standard on the S5 IMO anyway!)

Was thinking about the privacy glass but can't justify £375 so left it unticked and I'll probably end up getting that done myself via a friend of a friend and then removing the tint at the end of the lease term.

The trouble with options is knowing when to stop and hence me only choosing 3...although I would have liked 5!!!

The Nivarra blue paint will add around £28 to the monthly cost so up to you where you want to be with your monthlies! smile

Does anyone know why "ARA" blue isn't showing on the uk configerator web site? It's used in loads of the press shots and the promo vids.
I love the colour.

Im also going for the S5 coupe on lease. Black with red leather + virtual cockpit. Being ordered through my local dealer on a 3+23 at £459. 10k p/a

I have been offered the maintenance package at around £18 pm. What are peoples thoughts on that? Im assuming i will get through a set of tyres within the 20k miles (based on thrashing it around quite a bit and very few motorway miles) plus 1 service.

Just need march to hurry up and come now!

Can I ask the name of the dealer and who you dealt with?

Order done and in. Changed slightly.

Black
Black
Virtual Cockpit
Flat Bottom Wheel

Resisted Privacy as it is a lot of cash and I wanted to adhere to the leasing mantra. "Avoid the options at all costs" smile

£350 is good value for those options for me.

My order is now placed, I went for:

Black
Red leather
virtual cockpit

The order has literally just gone, so don't have any build slots or dates yet. Does anyone know how long this takes for a build slot to be assigned and anyone got any knowledge of how it can be tracked

I spoke to Audi UK customer service and they said it can take a week before the order number shows on 'My Audi'.

Incidentally, did you get the PM that I sent you last week?

I'm hoping that I get the call from the dealer over the next few days just to confirm the order is now live.
I never use private messaging on piston heads, so not sure where to look to see if anything is turned up, any chance of pointing me in the right direction?

Nick - I've just figured out that the PM messages are going into my junk mail, should have that sorted out now, but thanks for the message.

Well after a bit of back and forth with the broker the order form is in and job done clap

With my current (purchased not leased) A7 being an ex demo and therefore pretty much fully loaded I struggled to peel away any of the options I had on my original "wish list", but did manage to bin the privacy glass - so final spec is:

Navarra Blue
Rotor Grey interior
B&O Sound
Virtual Cockpit
Flat s/wheel
Folding heated mirrors
Hill hold assist

I know the lease mantra of minimal options etc, but have done the man maths and the total cost over the term will still work out at less than the A7 will have depreciated over 2 years come Feb/March, and that's buying an ex demo..

Have loved the grunt of the BiTdi engine but am looking forward to being able to rev something past 6k revs again..! driving

The sums work out at £2800 deposit and £440 flat month (all Inc VAT), so I'm basically paying £1k per annum for all the options, which I'm OK with to have pretty much want I wanted originally - just hope the colour combo works and that I like grey interior (I've done black, cream, red but never grey..)

Roll on February.. smile
