Im 3000 miles in now.

Average is 24.5mpg from start.

12 mile commute, a fairly good example of mixed driving, returns 27.5 mpg.

That's about as good as it gets,
Yep, mine is about the same as well (@3k). Have actually got 36.5mpg in Eco mode on a long steady run.

Maintenance prices:
Has anyone had servicing doen up to 20k miles yet?
My lease docs have come through and the servicing + tyres cost to add to the lease is about half the cost compared to the Leon I'm handing back. ( which to be fair was on a lease with double the miles)
I understand it will need an oil service ( as I will be doing 10001 miles a year wink ) and an inspection service before it goes back after 2 years.

Anyone know the cost of these services (at a main dealer of course)
Also if I'm likely to get through any tyres in 20-25k miles.

It will only need to go to the dealers once if it's on long life, mine says it needs it in about 10k and 400 odd days and I have 5k on the car already.

If my B8 S4 and Mk7 R were anything to go I'd budget all 4 tyres by 20k. Unless you have the car for tootling about posing in you will chew some tyres, the 4WD does it's fair share allegedly anyway

Fronts will probably last 12-14K, rears 18-20K - so I'd hope just 4 tyres if you swap front to back when the fronts are replaced.

Allegedly two services can be avoided either by handing the car back early before the inspection service is due, or by having a single inspection service when the variable oil service comes due - depends on driving, but probably on about 15K?

Cost wise, oil service will likely be around £300, and inspection around £600. (Audi fixed price servicing is only for 3-5 year old cars...)

I was quoted £51.37 ex VAT per month for service, maintenance and tyres. I assume it is then possible to remove maintenance and it drops significantly? Has anyone added this to the lease after the order, but before delivery and signing the final docs?

I've just booked my tdi A5 in for its first service, £370.

I was originally quoted circa £40 a month for tyres servicing and maintenance. I have had 14 tyres in 3 years 6 months on my A6 due to work life so know I will need tyres outwith normal wear and tear. Interestingly I didn't take the option and when it came to signing my final finance docs I had the option again at £24 a month including VAT which I thought was good value. Taking into account the likely cost of at least 2-4 tyres, one service and any consumables, I think that would be over £600 and therefore see it as a 'saving' in the long run.

I've had the Sportback for three days so I thought I'd post some initial thoughts, in case anyone's interested!

My last two cars were a 2011 A7 and a 2013 640d Gran Coupe, so they're my points of reference..

Interior... just lovely. Much nicer that the 640d which used great materials but seemed strangely dated. I'd say that the quality is comparable but the S5 is much slicker, more modern and just a nicer place to be. It's a small thing, but I really love the vents smile The greatest surprise is how quiet it is... noticeably better than either of the other cars. I think the 640 was hampered by the 20" wheels, but the S5 is smoother and more comfortable on decent roads and perhaps marginally worse on the bumpy/potholed stuff... it get quite harsh on a really crap surface, but never too bad and I guess it's to be expected on a car like this.

Seats... I liked the Comfort seats in the A7 but really didn't get on with the Sports seats in the 640... too hard, the headrest wasn't adjustable and the back had two 'seams' which were in a really irritating position. In both cars I could never get the position of the base and the right bolster in a position that was 100% comfortable for my right leg. The S5 seats are, so far, absolute bliss. I haven't done any long journeys so time will tell re: right leg, but they are definitely the most comfortable... nicely compliant in the right places, but hold you well in the twisties. I thought the massage function would be something of a gimmick but even though it's a bit limited (essentially an overactive lumbar support) it is really rather pleasant. Big thumbs up for the seats.

Engine... magnificent. For me, an ideal level of power... hard to see how one could utilise much more without getting into a lot of trouble! The noise is wonderfully addictive. I've obviously kept it in dynamic mode most of the time smile Even my daughter, who generally couldn't give two stes about cars, thought it sounded awesome.

Gearbox... the jury is still out on this one. I think it's fine in Dynamic, but in the other settings the changes are rather lethargic. In Efficiency or Comfort mode, it seems quite easy to get caught out in the wrong gear, like when taking a corner or pulling off at a roundabout, and the down shift is pretty slow. I've found myself using the paddle shifts a lot more than I did in the A7 or 640. I wouldn't say it's disappointing, but it's definitely not as slick as the s-tronic in the A7. Or maybe it's because I'm used to large turbocharged diesels with more low down torque? Not really sure...

Sound system... when I took a test drive it was in a coupe with B&O. I then sat in an SB with the standard system and thought the difference was huge, so I stumped up the extra for the B&O. When I first turned on the system in the S5, using Spotify via Android Auto, I was quite underwhelmed. I'm no audiophile, but the sound seemed to lack both clarity and 'oomph'. It was also entirely biased to the front of the car, which seemed odd for a 'surround' system. The 640 had a great HK system and my first impression was that the S5 was inferior. I've spent ages fannying around with the settings and I'm now very happy with it. It doesn't sound anything special at low volumes (strangely weak) but I tend to be in the car on my own and if I'm not enjoying the engine/exhaust I'll have the volume reasonably high. So the initial disappointment (slash regret at wasting a few hundred quid!) has given way to satisfaction... it's as good as the 640's system and maybe a little better. Worth the extra? Again... not sure...

Virtual Cockpit... l like it, but wish there was more customisation. I probably wouldn't miss it if I didn't have it. IMHO Audi should have ditched the stick-on screen on the dash and just gone with the VC... that would have made the dash a lot more slick.

Steering wheel... went for the flat bottom wheel and it's 100% worth it. It obviously appeals to the shallow boy (well... middle aged) racer in me, but it's absolutely lovely to use.

Not yet had the need to use the headlights so can't comment on whether the Matrix lights are worthwhile. Glad I went for the Comfort & Sound pack instead of just the B&O... it' seems one of the best value packs and I'd have really missed the advanced key & rear view camera.

I also went for the storage pack to stop my kids whinging at the lack of rear cup holders. £175 is daft for a handful of things that should be included on a car of this value, but the cargo net has already proved useful smile

So... what do I miss from the A7 or 640? Not a lot... maybe a sunroof. I did toy with the upgrading to a grey metallic, but figured I'd rather spend the money on the inside of the car. The brilliant black looked great on the day of delivery. It's already filthy.

In summary, I really like the car... very pleased indeed. I don't miss the 640 one jot.

EDIT: Forgot to say that, as just about everyone else has reported, the fuel consumption is indeed ste.

Great write up - the gearbox is the weak link but not as bad as I feared. Coming from a 640d though I imagine it's a noticeable issue (my dad has a 640d and the gearbox despite being the same unit pretty much is much better).
Any advice on setting up the BnO sound?

Great news!!! Definitely recommend looking at the Autowatch Ghost Immobiliser as part of your security upgrade.

I've never heard of it being added retrospectively.
My quote to include maintenance/servicing/tyres when I first ordered was £37 a month.
All my ordering paperwork went through ( i.e.the broker's paperwork) without the maintenance.
Heard nothing for three months while the car was being built. Tracker says it's in the UK/

I have just received my (AUDI UK branded) finance documentation through to sign, and that indicates the figure of £18ish for maintenance, servicing and tyres (
Interestingly to delete the tyres and just have servicing and maintenance is a whole 80p per month cheaper biggrin

As I occasionally visit places where partially smashed pallets litter the car park ( yes, they're usually the guys with the most money) this is a bit of a result

Done as much as you can - 8 CCTV cameras, new house alarm system, got a tracker ready to go on, driveway post installed now and will be getting the Autowatch Ghost put on. About as much as i can do.

How is the tuning box working out? I am glad I didnt have one otherwise it would of been lost! But still tempted

Wow, sounds like Fort Knox. 3k miles with it now and no issues at all. Works flawlessly. The new price is a bonus now too. Gives a 3.8-9 second 0-60 in mode 7 using launch control with paddles.

Do you have it on a high setting all the time? Do you have to lift the bonnet to change the setting?

Yeah neither have I unfortunately but I've asked the question so will see what they say. I honestly dont remember being offered it either and I've checked the finance paperwork and it doesn't have it on there so can't tell how much it would have been had I taken it.

£18pm really is a no brainer especially including tyres! Great result there :-)
