I'm considering putting my B8 S4 up for sale next month but struggling to decide what to replace it with.

It's a nice problem to have but it's a problem none the less- my current car is almost too good. I had it stage 2 tuned to 470bhp by MRC when I first got it so it is seriously quick, it's comfy and has all the toys/spec. Last time I had this issue (replacing my first B8 S4) I copped out and just bought a higher spec one but I can't see that happening again as my current one has the sports diff, drive select, Super Sports seats, B&O, HDD Nav etc, the only gadget it is missing that I'd quite like is the adaptive cruise but I can't see any B8.5 S4s or S5 coupes with both adaptive cruise and sports diff.

I do a 50 mile a day round trip to work so replacement needs to be auto, not too daft on fuel/running cost (ruled out C6 RS6 and Continental GT) and I want to stick with 4wd so the performance is actually usable, my shortlist at the mo is as follows:
TTRS S-tronic: Fast, tuneable and nimble but wont be a comfortable as S4 and considered a bit girly.
RS5: Looks and sounds good but slower and dearer to run than S4.
A45 AMG: Much same plus and minus points as TTRS but boy racer image rather than girly.
RS3: Have no need for 5dr so would go TTRS over a RS3 I think.
335/435d X-Drive: Good bit cheaper to run but nowhere near as fast and seriously boring.

Opinions, suggestions?

50 miles so must be Auto? I do 70 a day currently and manual is fine for me.

I would suggest a 911 and a daily driver.

I've been thinking of what to change my standard b8s4 s4 for, the new 4.0t S6 looks stonking value for money used and highly tunable.

Or do I get my S4 tuned to stage 2! How is the performance on yours versus stand tune and how does it feel?

I've been running a b8.5 S4 since Sep 2015 (on of the last) and tend to get bored of cars pretty quickly. I am loving it, but just wish the interior was a little better. Been toying with the idea of replacing it, but can't find anything that ticks the boxes I want without nearly doubling my costs. As soon as funds allow (and if I decide to run it for another few years) then I will definitely be visiting MRC.

GTR would seem like an obvious candidate if you don't need the space?!

Forgot to mention that it is done during rush hour traffic so lots of stop start traffic so having owned Evos and Scobbies with uprated clutches previously decided auto was the way to go and haven't looked back since.

Considering the S6 4.0 TFSi myself but the one area I feel the S4 falls a little short is fun on the back roads due to it's size so not sure the S6 is a step in the right direction for me.
The difference having the S4 stage 2d makes is remarkable, it changes a quick car to a blisteringly fast one, this is my second B8 S4 and both have been stage 2d with no problems at all, do it!

Considered having two cars but I feel having a car I spend around 2 hours in every day that I'm not keen on in order to get to drive a car I like once or twice a week would annoy me.

Got to drive my father's R35 GTR when he got one when they first came out and it was crazy fast but I did feel I was along for the ride and it was doing all the work. They are a good bit over my budget and the crazy short service intervals and high running costs would put me off even if I had the money.

Plenty of cars with decent amount of power have quite light clutches these days. Something lighter would be far more fun to drive.

A Golf R, Focus RS, RS3, A45 might well be ideal for your useage, most are available in Auto guise.

Okay, just get the 911 then.

A 997 Carrera 4 is a consideration but mileage of examples within my budget is quite high and the performance is short of other cars listed and not really tuneable like the forced induction cars, also I find the interior on most 911s very dated looking. I understand the handling is meant to be great and they sound good too but I feel the price tag is massivley inflated due to the badge.

C43 seems a good car, got a drive of one recently and sounded amazing but still beyond my budget max budget of £28,500 unfortunatelly.

I'd probably rather a TTRS to the RSQ3 as it is lighter, smaller and hence should handle better.

Found a S6 and an A45 AMG within budget not too far from me so if I can persuade the other half I may go take a look at them this Sunday.

I feel a bit like goldilocks, the S6 is too soft and the A45 is too hard for my taste. The A45 handled great and went well at high revs but was too laggy and seat was uncofortable. The S6 sounded great and pulled preally well but steering was too light and there was too much pitch and roll even in Dynamic mode.

Suggest keep looking for a B8.5 or an S5 then? I had a B8 S4 a while back and I still regret selling it as I have had nothing near as good since...

Kinda looking like that's going to be the case, also looked at a RS3 but interior isn't really up to scratch. Going to keep eyes open for an S-Tronic TTRS for sale mearby to try to get a drive and see how that goes.

Can I ask what you've had since you sold you S4?
