Bit of a sorry tale tbh. Had a manual B8 S4 which I really loved - due to temporary insanity I decided it would be a good idea to trade it in for a B8.5 S4 (my first paddle shift as no manual option) - couldn't get on with the gearbox at all so chopped it in (at a massive loss) after about 6 months for a manual M135i. Very likeable car in many ways (comfortable and great engine) but missed the 4WD and found the lack of traction a pain. Changed it about 6 months ago for a manual Golf R - hmm, jury is out tbh, much to admire but not fallen in love with it - finding the ride harsh (didn't spec adaptive suspension) and the build quality iffy so a fair few rattles which are niggling me. Wish I'd bought an S3 if I am honest.

TT RS is a tempter - the image wouldn't bother me (quite capable of looking like a to$$er in anything!) and I understand they go like stink - but I believe the ride can be harsh so would definitely want to give it a decent try first.

Good luck and keep us informed smile

I loved the S4. Before it I had an S5 and S3. Afterwards, I went SQ5 and then B8 RS4. Even though your S4 was mapped, I'd still look at an RS4. The market is on its arse and you can probably get something good for a steal. Great cars, loved it. We'll miss these NA V8s when they're gone!.

RS5 running costs won't be much more than the S4 surely? I ran my RS5 for 2 years and have had my RS4 for nearly 3 years and they've cost me:

£200-300 per service supplying own oil
£250/corner for tyres, fronts lasted 14k rears 18k on the current car
Tax £500 ish
Fuel 20mpg
Front pads on the RS5 about £200-250 done at about 20k (maybe a tad later) I think.
Insurance £300-350

I'm in the same position, considered buying it back but the dealer I sold it to predictably added £4k onto the price. Keep the S4, you'll regret selling it.

Well finally taken a deposit on mine but still unsure on what to replace it with, S5 coupe looking the favourite just now but trying to find the right spec for sensible money is proving difficult.

996 turbo. Quick, 4wd, low depreciation, will see 30 mpg when on the motorway and running costs are fine.

Hold their value better than a TT RS.

A bit outside the budget for one with decent miles and very dated interior (as all 911s have IMO)

Nothing to add to this thread really, other than I've been considering moving my S4 on after 4 years as I've bought a caravan to try holidaying in (yes I know rolleyes )
And I really cant bring myself to do it, I just know I'm going to miss it too much, not to mention the pitiful amounts I'm getting offered for it, WBAC £9750!!! .
So I guess It's tow with the S4 or buy a cheap 4x4 to drag the van?

Well S4 went last Friday and I've put a deposit down on an S5 coupe, safe/boring option but really seems to be the best all rounder for my purposes/wants.

Out of interest how did you find insuring the Stage 2 B8 S4, which insurer did you use?

I never found it a problem but I'm over 30 and have a clean licence with no claims, I'm currently with Adrian Flux but been with Sky insurance previously so a few to choose from.

Well that was a dissapointment, S5 was delivered on Saturday but it was in terrible condition despite being described as "perfect bar 3 stone chips on the front which will be touched up", lacquer on the wheels was all cracked, various scratches all over the bodywork but the rear of the car looked like someone had taken a scouring pad to it!

I refused to accept the car and spoke to the business manager at Audi who said they'd bring the car back and sort out the flaws but I told him I didn't want the car any more as if it was allowed to get into that condition cosmetically by previous owner then god knows what it's like mechanically, also if that's their idea of perfect condition then there's every chance I would still not be happy after they sorted it. I sent a video to the salesman highlight the flaws (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deVurmrT3f0) so they can't debate the condition the car was delivered in. Driver took the car away and I I was told on Saturday that I swouldn't get a refund until today due to bank holiday, the salesman hasn't responded to my emails this morning, he'll be getting a call from me once I'm on lunch!

You bought a 2nd hand car unseen? I'm surprised that people would do this on anything of reasonable value.

Unfortunately I can't make out any damage in your video due to the low quality footage. Seems a shame that they woyld send out a car in that consition as a minter.

I mistakingly put faith in the fact it was an Audi main dealer that it would be as desribed and having looked at used cars at various Audi dealers before, I have never seen anything on the forecourt in such bad condition, don't know if they took advantage of the fact it was sold unseen.

Problem I have is I'm looking for a very specific spec so finding one locally is proving impossible and I don't fancy travelling the length and breadth of the UK just to look at a car but I won't be paying for one in full and getting it delivered again, I'll at least travel there and pay on collection.

Went to see a Continental GT a couple of nights ago and it's just too "old man" for my taste, went to see a F10 M5 last night and although it was in great condition and a nice colour combo but for some reason it just didn't seem do it for me, don't know if it's the fact the garage only offered a 1 month warranty, that it's too big or just the nagging doubt in the back of my head about getting a RWD but not entirely convinced so think I'm just going to have to keep looking.

Dragging this back up but what have you had since? S4's seem very hard to replace as they are great buys at the price point, I cannot find anything sub £25k that I fancy.
