Bump.

How are you getting on with the Dunlop’s? They have good reviews from auto express and evo.

My time has come to change from the Bridgestone and my choice are:

good year eagle F1 3
Michelin PS4
Dunlop sport Maxx rt2

Priority is a more balanced ride, still good fun but softer and better traction than the bridge stones.

Help please!

I've only tried one of those three but the Michelin were spot on on my golf.

Didn’t like the factory Bridgestones at all so swapped to Goodyear asymmetric 3 and they’re great tbh! A lot quieter and much grippier

Both the Goodyear’s and the Dunlop’s are good and decent value compared to the Michelin’s.

18 months on from when I fitted Goodyears Assy 3 to my Octavia VRS i have to say my opinion has changed , the grip has dropped off considerably and in the cold weather it is pretty poor , I have Dunlops on my other car and they are pretty hopeless as well

Given the choice again I'd go for Michelins

I still haven't worn out the Bridgestones that I rotated to the front on fitting new PS4s to the rear, so can't comment on traction etc. The Michelins are certainly quiet and grippy and show no appreciable wear to date

So update...

I fitted Michelin PS4 last week and initial thoughts are:
Dry grip is fantastic. No longer spins wheels in first or second. Steering feel is so much better.
Noise is the same as the Bridgestones.
Ride is the same. Shame as hoping for a slightly softer ride over poor roads.
I will report back on wet grip when it rains.

Just bought a GTi Edition 40 for hoons and a bit of track work.

What’s the latest view on tyres?

I’d like Cup 2s but does anyone have experience of wet handling with them?

Is the default choice still P4S?

Cheers

Glad someone bumped this , I was very happy with Goodyear Eagle F1's but they didnt age well and after around 8000 miles were pretty awful all time but especially when it was cold.

Swapped for Mich PS4's and very very happy , more grip that the car has ever had and just feels so much more stable , about the same on noise as fair as i can tell , lets hope they age well

Dont think you can get the 4S in 18" so only an option for the 19" wheels

This is true. The Edition 40 was available with one 18" wheel choice and two 19" options so it will depend on what he has.

Thanks all, looks like ps4s it is then. I do have the 19s. Pretty pleased with the spec, 3 door, no sunroof, buckets, DCC and Dynaudio. Early impressions are very good. Any other recommendations for track work?

Dsg. Only had Pdk, dsg and dct for some time now. I found it really limited my choices!

Very happy with PS4s on my GTD. Original Bridgestones wore out at 20k miles and now on second set of PS4s . My car has done 70k miles and first set did nearly 25k miles.

Well after almost another year, I've finally had the 2nd pair of factory fitted Bridgestones removed after 28k miles! They were just shy of the wear indicators, so probably 2.5mm tread remaining even now. They actually stood up quite well and I didn't notice a significant drop off in performance or increased trend to tramline when worn, which I've often found with tyres when they get over half worn.

Bought a pair of PS4s for £170 delivered and had them fitted today, with the other pair now moved from back to front of the car. They are typically sensitive (for Michelins) to road surface in terms of noise, and I need to give them some miles to bed in before passing judgement.

What the rim protection like on the Falkens ?

I’m looking at these or Rainsport 3.

Thanks
