I'm just about to sign up for an S4 Avant lease deal.. this thread has been very useful thanks! I'm going to go for the standard Brilliant Black and Black Leather and definitely the Virtual Cockpit but I'm mulling over whether to get the VC on it's own or as part of the Light & Vision Pack.. Can anyone comment on what the standard lights are like? Do you get LED rears and the sweeping indicators front and rear with the standard lights, albeit not as swanky as the Matrix LED's? For those with the Light & Vision Pack how do you find the Matrix LED's and what's the upgrading interior lighting like? Any comments most welcome as I'm hoping to finalise today.

I take it on the chin that Brilliant Black is going to be a bugger to keep clean.. Do any owners regret it?
I regret not going for Mis Red or Nav Blue on my S5. It is an absolute bugger to keep clean. I have vowed to never get the bog standard black/white again!

I don't know if I regret not going for L&V though. I very nearly did the Mis Red & L&V but it would have delayed the car by the time I made my mind up! Now is the time of year that I would be thinking I would want matrix but the lights are actually better than any other car I have ever had. I just wish they would shine on my side of the road while I am meeting stuff (roads round me are full of pot holes so I like to see as far forwards as I can to plan accordingly)

Thanks Tom, I am seriously tempted by the Nav blue too.. It seems to really suit the S4/S5 and contrasts well with the chrome and silver alloys (they use it in all the brochures / press cars etc for this reason no doubt). I'm trying to keep the options as low as possible though and in a toss up between metallic and the L&V pack I'm veering towards the latter. I've never had a black car but from everything I read it sounds a bit of a nightmare smile I would consider the white but think it then needs the Black Pack and Black/Grey alloys to look the part.. My current Golf R is also blue so the black will be a change I guess.

Depends where you live too. I live out in the sticks so filthy roads are commonplace this time of year. Living in a town and only going on main roads you might be alright.

I would say the colour will bring more enjoyment than the lights based on the fact I have neither and considered both. The standard lights are better than the Golfs other than that they don't steer.

Thanks.. I'm out in the sticks so it will get dirty but on country roads good lights are a benefit too. If you could get the Nardo grey which I love or one of the nice greens on the S4 then I'd be a bit more willing to pay extra for paint. I've just done the deed and ordered black with the L&V pack.. Delivery March 2018.. I just need to ask for a lambswool washing mitt for Christmas now smile

I hope you like washing cars! My current car is black and it's stunning when clean but such a pain he upkeep. I'd never do it again unless I could afford to have it properly sealed or PPF'd.

Sweeping (one way, can’t remember if its on or off) rear indicators and standard flash front are standard.

I've just got an S4 Avant in Daytona Grey, light & vision and sound & comfort packs, and privacy glass. smile

Loving the car mainly, just slightly annoyed at the s-tronic gearbox. It's fine once at speed, but pulling away from a standstill, there's a bit too much delay for it to be perfect.

Does anyone know if there's any generic engine and gearbox maps out for it yet? The MTM tuning box things are a little pricey....

The problem is (presuming its a new one) its not an stronic box, its a normal torque converter auto box.

There are a few engine tuning boxes (DT UK is one of them I cannot recall the other) that people have tried on their S5s.

Agree with Tom, it is a torque converter issue.
I have a TDI box giving 408bhp which is great, but this issue still remains and is not a fix for this.
When in D mode there is a small delay in acceleration from a standstill which is annoying, but in S mode it is much better as giving you a higher RPM.

Would you guys find something like a pedal box better? Usually shaved off some of the dead spot at the top of any accelerator and makes it more responsive.

It totally transformed my Golf R. They now do a plus version which should work with the S4’s.

Maybe worth a try.

After spending at least an hour looking at S4 wheels I'm now thinking of changing my lease spec.. I originally thought the standard wheels would be OK but just about every S4 in the dealer network seems to have upgraded to one of the two cost options. As a lease customer I don't want to go options crazy and thus far I've only added the Light & Vision Pack (S4 Avant, standard Brilliant Black).

I'm tempted to just go for the Virtual Cockpit on it's own rather than as part of the pack and spend the 500 quid I'll save on upgrading the alloys instead.. Any opinions would be most welcome! Will I regret not having the Matrix headlights (presumably the standard lights are LED's front and rear anyway?)? Are the standard alloys that bad?

Standard

550 GBP Upgraded Alloys (they look very "two tone" in this pic which initially put me off them but they seem to be a plain grey in the metal)

I have the standard alloys and I think they are a completewaste of my 0 GBP I paid extra for them.

What sort of plank designs diamond cut silver wheels?

You can't see they're diamond cut because they're silver, so no point in doing it.
If the lacquer peels on them in the next two years I'll be mightily peed off.

Thanks.. I think the diamond cut ones (the lower of the two above) are always optional unless you got them thrown in?

I don't dislike either so if it was me I think I'd be getting L&V pack and leaving alloys as they are. But the £550 are the nicest ones I think.

Glad us S5 types have Cavos!

On another note has anyone noticed if you want matrix and multi coloured LEDs then you get VC for free in the L&V pack? Very good value Vs individual options

Nope, the ones above them also have diamond cut bits on them...

Personally, I would rather use the £500 towards a set of black aftermarket alloys, which I can sell on after the lease is over...none of the OEM wheels really appeal and I am going for black on black on black..so any shinyness on the wheels is no good wink

Check the tracker today, they usually go into production the Thursday before the allocated build week.
I ordered an S4 saloon about 3 weeks ago - was told the build would start middle of January 2018 with an estimated delivery date around 2nd/3rd week in Feb.

Received a call from the dealer last Friday saying it would be completed today and if I wanted it early, I could take delivery 2nd week of December.

Can only assume a near identical spec order was already underway but was cancelled. Certainly not grumbling about picking it up a few months early - only downside is it won't be an '18' plate
