Emailed dealer on Monday to enquire re final paperwork in preparation for Sept 1st delivery. No response. Emailed again Wednesday. No response. Phoned Thursday.
"You didn't get a response as he's on holiday" says another salesman.
"No problem" says I. "Just want to know what time you want us to collect the car on the 1st?"
"The 1st??? You must be joking! Do you know how busy we get? You'll have to wait until the 5th at the earliest"

mad

Am I being unreasonable to expect the car on the 1st when they've known for almost 3 weeks that's when we wanted it?
Welcome to the wonderful world of vw leasing! You are just a number.....a lowly number.
Not a Lease.

Regular purchase from VW dealer.

did you say that in your original post? If a purchase direct from the dealer (ie not through a broker) IMHO that is pretty crappy and does not bode well if there are problems to be dealt with.
OR

perhaps the dealer is acting responsibly and spreading out their handovers so that PDI's are done properly and the car is handed over with the time required for a quality job.

Who knows!

mine did the tyre pressure loss detected thing last week on the motorway. All tyres looked & felt normal and uniform. Checked at a petrol station and pressures were within normal range, it took the mrs bloody ages to work out how to reset the system, all in all a very frustrating experience!

Emailed dealership again today as salesman supposed to be back off holiday... had no response.

First new VW we've had after many BMW's. We haven't even got it yet and the wife's already saying she'll be going back to BMW hehe . When I phoned last week another salesman did say the reason for long collection lead dates was as you described (quality hand over etc). If we were supposed to be a Sept 1st delivery they must have sold a scensoredt load of VW's to take 5 full days to hand them all over before it's our turn!

Apologies for confusing you all thinking it was a lease (I'm aware I'm on the Lease thread). We just missed the boat on the cheapy deals in April. And when we added the extras the wife wanted (it's going to be her car), leasing wasn't any cheaper. Negotiated a fairly chunky discount with the dealer instead.

I don't know if I've been unlucky, but we've only had our GTI for 3 weeks and have had the house broken into by thieves looking for the keys for it (nothing else was taken). Take care...

I had mine for 3 months (took delivery in May) before an attempted break in... Good locks prevented entry, CCTV caught them in the act.
Motive not known 100% obviously but Police said overnight break-ins are almost always for car keys.

Damm lucky if you could call it that because we live in a terrace house with no driveway, the GTI is hardly ever parked directly outside. Feel for you guys who are getting targeted!

I bet I know what a black Golf looks like and if I didn't a quick Google search would throw up a few.

Having said that , hope you love the new car!!

Finally got a confirmed build week for the golf we ordered in early April! How long after build week should I expect delivery?

We've had a loan Touareg for the best part of 4 months, so not all bad.

How long after ordering did you get the loan car and how did that come about, was it via the dealer or VW direct.

Got a confirmed build date of week comm 16 Oct for my GTi order which was placed on 1 July. Still having colour dilemmas but will stick with my original choice of Indium Grey.

Just turn the ESP off (well ... down to the minimal intervention). I do it every time I get into my cars now as it's become a habit of mine.
