Right, I'm cancelling my floret silver car (hadn't signed the finance docs) and have instead gone for a Mythos Black car that is on the water instead of having been sat for 6 months.

The car has the 4 camera option for birds eye view parking and is 3+23 for £480 per month inc. VAT instead of £492.30 for a Floret Silver car, both on 10k pa. Saved me £319.80 and I'll be treating the other brokers fee as a sunk cost...

That's a good price, overall about £1400 less than mine. I also took a Mythos Black car but managed to get one that was in stock, so that saved me the cost of hiring a car whilst waiting & a few incentives from the dealer to sweeten the deal.

I thought so too - I didn't want black but it has grown on me. I expect they may get cheaper in the next couple of months but if I wait too long I'll miss the boat.

I still have a car so waiting 2-3 weeks for it isn't an issue for me! How are you enjoying yours?

So far so good. The Mythos looks stunning clean & being the Black Edition looks very BLACK which in the flesh looks amazing. The interior uplift (quilted seats) make a bug difference & overall i'm very pleased with the car. The newer 3.0tdi engine is no slouch & extremely smooth so overall a lovely place to spend a few hours driving. When all told though, the biggest draw after the farce with my FFRR is the A8's a known entity for me as everything works as it should, car was available immediately & it's costing peanuts relatively speaking.

Cameras are quite useful for tight spaces, especially with such long car :-) Car would have to be really, really cheap to convince me to go for black again. Havana Black is nightmare to keep in good condition, without light scratches, etc.

Did you have to go through finance check again when dropping one deal and getting another one? The same dealer/broker or different?

I have to agree about the black comment. For me the expanse of black on black on black does work really well on the Black Edition, however if i'd been 'buying' the car then i'd have steered well clear as even after just 1000 miles i can see several light scratches that on a black car stand out as if the car's been keyed. Even did 2 myself down the boot lid yesterday when using the miracle blade.

Have to think that Mythos is insanely soft paint, as on my wife's dark blue XC60 it looks almost brand new with over 12mths abuse & i used to have a MCB M5 which i followed the same cleaning procedure on & never had a mark on the paintwork (other than stone chips).

I think paint is really soft. I said some time ago that car gets scratches just from looking at it. I park a lot at airports and stopped washing it to keep it dusty to see if someone touched it or walked past it to spot any scratches immediately. However I don't have stone chips on the front. I will wash the car and do a bit of polishing on the boot before I return it. Second owner can deal with it.

Different broker, new finance check and different dealer group. Original car was via Newcastle and they had no visibility of the car I referred to from the other broker as I did try to let them retain the business.

Slightly more concerning is that I test drove an A8 in the States (haven't driven a U.K. car) and I didn't really like it. The air suspension felt fantastic over the rough roads, but the "new" car had a nasty vibration and I wasn't sold on the interior; not that they have a Black Edition over here. The 3.0 petrol was quite gutless too, not that I had chance to put my foot down. I just didn't really gel with it which surprised me as I liked the Q7 and A7 and thought it would be more of the same with some slightly older tech. Dare I say I prefer the S class or even 6GC or 7 series?!

I'm now not going to confirm the car until I've driven one in the UK. If I lose it, so be it.

Go for a test drive so you're not stuck with the car you don't like. It should be easy to source 3.0 TDI for a test drive, there are some black editions floating around on used market too. Diesel 3.0 will be totaly different from 3.0 petrol. I assume A8 in USA was used/rental? So could have some issues already.

The thing is, you won't get "S class or even 6GC or 7 series" for the price of outgoing model of A8. I would consider BMW 7 but they are never cheap. I think I saw one deal in last two years for 740i L M-Sport. 6 series was on offer about 2 years ago. There were some deals on S-class 350d but can't remember exact price. You can get cheap E-class, taxi spec E220d ;-)

It's all down to choice between cheap lease or car you like and want to pay more for it.

I've been checking deals every day for last 5 weeks, to see if there's something better than A8 for similar or lower price but couldn't find anything I want. Don't want to C-class, E-class, 3 series 335d, Volvo S90, Volvio XC90, poor spec A6, etc.... I have absolutely no interst in SUVs and I think the height of them (opening the hatch) would cause some issues in my garage and car port. First world problems ...

Thanks and sorry for not replying sooner.

I drove a white 66 plate and loved it - like chalk and cheese with the US spec car - found the throttle response odd (lot of travel in the pedal for me compared to what I'm used to) but loved the car. I was so comfortable, the ride was fantastic (as expected) and I found it very relaxing, if not very dynamic/involving. It'll be just what I need after getting off a plane and something that I think will be reliable no matter what the conditions/my tiredness.

The sports seats are very comfortable and the birds eye view looked brilliant for reversing but at risk of being a gimmick until you REALLY need it (the dealer didn't let me park it unfortunately) although I personally feel I'd have been fine with just the camera and side mirrors! Bose was better than expected, although I may well miss my under seat subwoofers from my existing Logic 7 setup.

In summary it will by Mythos Black with the camera option, and is being sourced from Preston Audi and delivered to me on a transporter on 30th September OR I can go and pick it up. Won't be a cover on the car if it is transported but the risk of stonechips will be a fact of life unfortunately as it will now be going up and down the M5 a fair bit as well as coming to Bruges with me for a fortnight in October/November. At least the black should hide it and potential airport car park dings well.

I've got the price down to £475 on a 3+23 with no fees, so £514.83 amortised a moth give or take the 1/3 of a pence in rounding.

My biggest dilemma is whether or not to have it maintained at £117 initial and £39 per month, both including VAT, as offered from the lease company:

'The main difference between our package and Audi’s is we cover no quibble tyres which means we cover punctures and if the puncture cannot be fixed we will replace it with a new tyre, whilst Audi do not offer this service they only replace the tyre if it’s at its legal limit.'

Given 21" tyres (presuming 275/35/21) are coming in at £300 each, I calculate at ((24 * £39) + £117) = £1,053, this could well pay for itself potentially, barring any odd exclusions.

Any thoughts, anyone?

To add, the US spec car was a brand new model that had been in storage. The UK dealer couldn't believe I hated the car, said that the S-Line was a UK spec only (I thought it may have been Europe, but he was adamant it was UK only) and thought that they may have left the transport "blocks" in.

I'll probably get a 640d or a Q7/SQ7 after this lease ends. I found the insurance on the A8 extortionate though! £500 more than my 535d or a 335d xDrive I was considering on paper (but just that bit too small and I didn't like the basic black leather on it).

Is that based on 8k or 10k miles?

As for the Service Plan, if it does include full tyre cover then it could be worthwhile (you say Audi don't offer this but the leasing company do, surely the lease is through VWFS?) If not, who's the Leasing company?

Depending on mileage you're only likely to need one service & if 8k pa could actually swerve a service altogether (depending on driving style). On that basis you'd then need to get through 3 tyres in the lease period which would be very unlucky as you'll not wear them out during the lease.

Personally i swerve such things as over the years i'd have been well out of pocket taking service plans, but i'm sure those who tend to be unlucky could have been in profit.

Based on 10k pa miles. It does include full tyre cover and I've asked for a copy of inclusions/exclusions on the policy to help me make my mind up. I've just started a new job and my mileage is now unknown - it turns out I'll be in the UK for 6 more weeks of this year than anticipated, racking up 500 miles+ each week of those as well as travel to airports etc and driving to Belgium in it twice. My travel for the next year isn't clear either - there's a chance I can rack up the miles but most of them will be chargeable at 45p per mile.

The owner/lessor would be VWFS but the intermediary is YourNewCar/YourFleet (YourNewCar Limited). Can't spot any details of the maintenance package on their website.

Top View Cameras are not gimmick, they are quite useful in certain situations. I like forward camera when navigating in narrow car parks or getting into my garage.

My current car came from Dundee but I think it was transported on lorry down to Milton Keynes and from there on a flat bed to SW London. No damage on it whatsoever. So I don't think you have to worry about stone chips from transporting it.

£1000 for maintenance is quite a lot. You should get away with one oil service at max £300-450. Service plan from Audi is £350 for 3 years but that's only for servicing. My tyres still have 5mm after 17K miles and that's on S8, so double the power. You would have to be really unlucky or prone to punctures to use £1000 maintenance. I only had one slow puncture which costed me £25 to fix.

Are excess miles 45p per mile or do you mean you will expense miles for 45p? My excess miles will be 11p with WVFS and you can call mid-contract and usually get more at half price.

My car spent quite some time at Heathrow car parks and if you park at airports often, you probably have favourite spots and special places to avoid any potential damage. I have favourite places or looking for ones away from other cars.

When travelling on Eurotunnel, I choose car over 1.85m and go on carriages with one level and minimal kerbs on sides. And on ferries I book priority boarding to make sure my car is not surrounded from all sides. I'm off to continent on last S8 run this weekend and staying in Brugge on Friday :-)

New A8 paperwork is in progress and I was told I will get contract in post tomorrow. I'm waiting for info if dealer is interested in acquiring S8 and saving me early termination fee from VWFS.

Regarding insurance, I paid £709 for S8 as part of multicar policy. Black Edition added £20 for remaining 6 months but I suspect £15 could be admin fee for policy change. That's in Greater London so prices are usually high.

I meant I'll expense 45p per mile! What I meant more is that my mileage is more of an unknown factor from my 10k pa I've signed up to so I'll have to weigh it all up. Excess miles are around the 11p mark, I might need to add VAT though.

Thanks for confirming re: damage, I'll save myself a 4 hour plus round trip. Interesting at the tyres - 17k with 5mm left sounds incredible, especially on an S8! I can't even logically pick apart that a diesel will be heavier etc...

Yeah insurance isn't great for me - one SP30, three claims (2 non fault, one a minor bump backing out of a space at idle in a Vectra) along with business use seems to put my price up.

I noted the service plan at Audi for £350 and thought that was sensible in case I need more than 1 service or decide to extend the lease, if an option. I've seen the fixed price service for £199 for 3 years+ but no idea what it is for < 3 years. Presuming it is higher for the dealer stamp means that if I'm entertaining the service plan, I'm going to also consider tyres... I'm aware most vehicle leasing companies make money on their maintenance agreements though... interesting to get the same opinion (EDIT!) from two different owners on this thread.

I did around 70% of driving on motorways and rest city/country roads. I didn't race from every traffic light (just some) so tyres are doing well :-) I was surprised they still have 5mm.

Hi all.
Anyone think included servicing is worth it?
Popped into a local dealer Thursday as they had a 17 plate S8 in Mythos with a few choice goodies for £59850
Got a call yesterday to say a man was travelling from Wales but the brand new S8 in Daytona I dismissed the day before for being £15k more than the 5 month old 3,000 miler apparently needed to go, and no sensible offer turned town!
So I bid £60k and they went for it. Which seemed nice.
Now reading through here (and after having it included with my current A8 for free) woundered if the inclusive servicing pack made sence.
Will keep it for three years BTW.
Cheers

S8 is now exlucded from Service Plan for £350 for 3 years. There was no exclusion in 2015 and 2016 but it changed since then. It was definitely worth the money.

Bugger!
Would have gladly laid out that sort of money for three years servicing!
Remember the first service bill on the first Audi I had back in '06.
Was a 4.2 A6 avant and they wanted £450 for its first oil change!
Nearly fell of the stool!

Bear in mind, if something seems too good to be true then it often is.

I declined on mine (A8 Black Edition) as at worst i'll have one service towards the end of the cars time with me & i'll get that for around £150 as was agreed with the dealer. Unlikely to need any other service/maintenance in the 20k miles i'll run it other than maybe the odd oil top up & i have a few litres in the garage already.
