Currently have a VW Golf MK6 with the RCD310 in it, looked into getting the RCD510 and installing bluetooth at the same time. Anyone got knowledge on how simple or hard this might be? I have seen you can get the RCD510 on eBay for about £100 but not too sure on what bluetooth stuff i need.

Any help appreciated.

Edit: Should probably also note i don't have the multi-functional steering wheel so no connectivity needed there.

Radio itself is very straight forward and pretty much a straight swap. Only complication might be if you're swapping to one with DAB and you don't have this already, it will require an additional antenna.

Bluetooth is more difficult due to the wiring required and I think the module goes underneath the passengers seat IIRC. It can work without the MFSW as you'll control via the RCD 510

May be worth looking at the RNS 315 as if I remember right these came with Bluetooth built in, so could work out about the same price and you'll gain Sat Nav too since it's an RNS.

OEM Bluetooth module is normally located under the driver's seat (RHD).

These guys based in Poland can supply Bluetooth Kits.

As said above some RNS315 units have integrated Bluetooth which may be a better option plus you get sat nav as a bonus. Obviously you would need to add a GPS antenna. Only downside would be that you would lose integrated 6 CD chamger that's in the RCD510, if that was the reason for upgrading.

Does the RNS 510 come with built in bluetooth? If so, is it better than the 315 and would it still be a straight swap pretty much or will it be a lot more complicated? My main reasons for wanting to swap is the Bluetooth, i want to be able to connect my phone to it to play music rather than constantly using my AUX. Not really bothered about radio or being able to take calls etc.

No for some reason only the 315 has Bluetooth built in from that era, the others didn't.

You might be better of just getting a simple AUX to Bluetooth adaptor if that's all you're after, e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-Receiver-TaoTro...

I was looking at just getting something similar to what you have suggested but i would prefer swapping the unit as i think the touchscreen looks neat and nice as well as modern. The nav built into it would also be good as currently i would use my phone but again because it's plugged in through AUX and my phone holder is on my air vents, the wire runs down and looks messy.

So because the 315 has built in bluetooth is it literally a swap job? I'm aware that i would need to buy a GPS antenna but is that it?

Unless you're desparate for a 6-stack CD changer I'd stick with the 310. We had a 510 in our VW and I regarded the un-intuitive touch screen interface as positively dangerous. It would be safer, less 'eyes off road time', to have a bunch of CDs on the passenger seat to pick from than try to navigate the 510's 'controls'.
