Seems my variable service light is on again frown this time an oil change for my A5. Audi want £205.00 for an oil service. Dealership based in North London, but for me it just seems really excessive.. If I went to an indy, would they be able to log the service in the Audi database? or would I have to rely on a little stamp.. They would have to use genuine parts etc...

Appreciate dealers do offer goodwill, my car is still within warranty for next 6 months, but feels like the price is a bit OTT..

Anyone have their Audi serviced via Indy while still in warranty?

It's maybe £50 more than a service at an independent, as it's relatively young I'd probably just go with dealer, at least until warranty is out.

Might be worth seeing if Audi will sell you a service plan - these are usually pretty good value.

Yeah, as above the 3-5 year old service plans are quite good value if you plan to keep the car long term. Covered the cost of plug replacement on our S5, although doesn't cover s-tronic service (go figure!)

I've kept ours main dealer serviced principally because the Audi warranty (which is relatively cheap) requires main dealer servicing. The difference in cost has never been significant and I've had quotes matched from specialists for stuff like air-con service which keeps it fairly sensible.

Cost for a ramp and stamp on my Golf, which is coming up to 2 years old, are something like £215 - apart from oil and filter it's basically a once over and a list of wear level on tyres and brakes, which I can check myself. I'll get it done but it does feel steep.

Not sure why the dealer would do you a goodwill service??
Simple - buy a service pack

Sorry, I mean if you get your car serviced by a main dealer, more likely to get goodwill from Audi, if anything goes wrong outside of warranty, as opposed to going Indy..

Not looking to keep the car for longer than a year.. So might be 6 months or so outside warranty..

Any views on whether an Indy can access the Audi database to record servicing?

An independent repairer will need ODIS to reset the service light/s after doing the work and ERWIN to log the service with Audi. Use of this software is chargeable (and expensive) in both cases.

The larger/busier independents will consider this a good investment. Smaller garages or those servicing older cars will not.

If you've a garage in mind I would call them and ask.

At that price , I'd be contacting indies. You say North London, so I've looked at distance from Watford to Old Milverton, where a VAG master tech and his associate ( a VAG trained bloke) work. It's 40 miles. Unit 18 , in Milton Keynes- lot better than a ponced up Audi dealer.
