That may be your opinion - but a lot of people think otherwise. Horses for courses and all that.

I'm well aware that it's hardly going to be the most dynamic of vehicles, but my wife has a bad back and is struggling with getting in and out of the A6 so wanted a higher car.

I wanted an A6 Allroad Bi-Turbo. But she didn't.

So we compromised and got what she wanted.

After 5 and a bit years of A6 Ownership, we've just traded it for a 3.0TDi Q5.
So why didn't you put this in your thread title?

Instead of the wker speak.

Personally, no. Comfortable, yes, and not a terrible drive by any stretch (although "dynamic" isn't a word I'd use to describe them) - and as the OP stated, a lot easier to get in and out of than an A5/A6 if you're struggling with a back issue. They're a very practical sized car too, which a fairly massive boot.

The Q5 isn't for me (today), but I don't tend to go around pissing on somebody's proverbial chips just because they like something I don't. Similarly, I once thought estates were all ugly and crap, automatics were for old women, and that 120bhp was enough. Turns out my opinion changed.

Ok, mr high horse. You said a lot of people don't think they're dull. I was wondering if you were one of them. Do you know people who think they're exciting?

I hope he has many happy miles in his dull car once the 'trigger is pulled'.

Keep up - the kumquat was fisted a long time ago.

I didn't say "a lot of people don't think they're dull". I'm sure a lot of people do find them exciting though, in the same way a lot of folk think a corsa is quick etc. The lass down the road with an SQ5 loves it, and it's certainly entertainingly quick.

That much I will agree with (SQ's have a decent turn of pace)!

Fair point SHTU!

Smallest factory wheel on a late Q5 was a 19x8 with a 235/55 on it.

Earlier on in production you could have an 18x8 with a 235/60.

If you message me through my profile I'll send you back PDFs of the brochures detailing what was available.

I don't imagine either wheel is worth anything at all on the second hand market.

I was chatting with my mechanic/indy a few mths back about winter wheels for my Q7 and dropping to 19s and he said he had a set in the back that were off a Q5 and the smallest wheels they currently fit to get over their callipers

They didn’t fit the 7 as 20 is the smallest I can go and it’s on 21s currently

Enjoy the 5, they’re ideal for mway comfort miles, this is what I headed out to get originally after deciding to change from my S6 but the 7 caught my eye instead ... the Mrs has had a 5 (and now a Macan which is essentially the same car to me) and it was great

They wouldnt have fitted 'the 7' regardless of diameter, as its a completely different PCD to the Q5.

They're brilliant as family transport. A friend has one but also has a E92 M3 and a 981. They're all exciting in their own ways, as in for different functions. The M3 and 981 are very unexciting at transporting his mountain bike yet the Q5 is brilliant at it.

I am sure that even you can understand that there is a wide spectrum between "dull as dishwater" and exciting.

Can't you grasp that one person can have several cars with a propensity for excitement inversely proportional to their propensity for functionality and that most cars fall somewhere between the 2 ?

It's also possible for someone to find a Q5 exciting, it's subjective. Or do you need to judge everyone else by your own standards ?

A Q5 is certainly more exciting & interesting than any of the input you've had to say on the subject, kiddo

Are you really short?
Is putting a mountain bike on the roof the same as climbing a mountain for you?

We don't get the 'exciting at transporting mountain bikes' bit!
