In terms of the possible options we were looking at next none of them were particularly ‘exciting’

We’ve has several Audis and already decided that while S Line cars look better, they don’t ride as well as their BMW equivalent over the terrible roads where I live. So were already looking at an SE rather than S Line. We were also looking for something a little higher and I didn’t really want to go for a full-on 4x4 or soft roader and I would have preferred a Volvo Cross Country or an A4 or A6 Allroad. But ultimately, it will be my wife’s car as she drives it daily as I cycle to work.

Our car was a A6 Le Mans so it was 30mm lower than a normal S Line and I guess you could describe it as exciting when we got it home and discovered that it wouldn’t go on our drive as the drive had quite a severe pitch on it and the car grounded out.

It was exciting when it got stuck on the track to our friend’s house as it was so long and low it couldn’t get over the transition from the track to the paved bit.

So i’m Happy to take a little less excitement and swap it for a car that we can drive in comfort on the roads we use most often and can park outside our house.

And besides, i’ve not driven an Audi yet that I’d describe as exciting.

I’m excited about getting it though. Not had a 4x4 so am looking forward to a different experience.

Thanks to all who provided useful information. And to those who were happy to sling the insults, i’m old enough, fat enough and ugly enough to have heard far worse.

And yes the ‘pull the trigger’ phrase was a bit wky in fairness. 😘

OP - They're a decent mile-muncher, will take a decent load, and won't get stuck bouncing up a country driveway. I bought my old A5 off a guy who was swapping for a Q5 as he couldn't bend comfortably to get into it anymore - he's since bought another Q5. Enjoy it, sounds like it'll be a better fit for you than the A6 LM!

And yes, the s-line suspension doesn't work for me either (A5 was an SE) - I imagine the LM was "firm" to say the least.

It’s amazing how desperate some people are about getting their negative opinions across to people they have never met on some forum. Particularly when you view their own profiles, posts and replies - clealy they would benefit in focusing some of that time and energy in other areas of their life!

OP - really nice looking, practical cars that I’m sure you will enjoy. Good luck and be sure to upload some images when you can.

This is also the 240 bhp version.

The facts and figures quote it as a 0-60 of 6.5 seconds, which I'd be surprised at given our A6 was just shy of 240bhp and those figures were 8.5 seconds.

Not that 0-60 makes a blind bit of difference in the real world

Tiguan gets it out of a 2.0 bi-turbo think he went for the better mpg.

Both good cars the Q5 has pretty strong residuals.

Thank you for finally admitting it. hehe

Out of interest, why did you choose an Audi? Because you already had one, or because nothing else fitted the bill?

I admit I am no Audi fan, but the pictures of your actual Q5 do make it look a bland car - by that I mean anonymous. There must be at least half a dozen equally anonymous crossover vehicles that would have fitted the bill?

I’ve been a fan of Audis for years.

I prefer the looks and styling of them to pretty much anything else.

I’ve been tempted by the Volvos (XC60 and V90 in particular) and had a BMW previously that was a better drive but the car was a nightmare from about 10 minutes after we picked it up right until the point we sold it 5 Years later. And during all that time BMW were awful in dealing with faults. So we’ve ruled them out.

Didn’t really fancy anything from Japan or korea.

I could have gone for a Skoda, but my missus is a badge snob.

Actually, having said that above, my missus did have a Kia Sportage as a hire car and said she really liked it. But they're not as cheap as you'd think and someone I know has just got one and one of our friends said they couldn't have one as they can only ever hear the name as if it's being said out loud by 'Boycey' from Only fools and horses and that put them off it entirely. And then me too. Sometimes it's the smallest things.

"Alright Derek, just got the old Sporta-a-a-a-a-ge outside."

They wouldnt have fitted 'the 7' regardless of diameter, as its a completely different PCD to the Q5.
Good job I had my set of 5x112 to 5x130 adapters off a previous car then isn’t it wink

Is putting a mountain bike on the roof the same as climbing a mountain for you?

We don't get the 'exciting at transporting mountain bikes' bit!
I actually never said that.

By "we" I assume you mean Dumb and Dumber who can't grasp that different people like different cars and that some, like the OP, can indeed find a Q5 exciting.

Or can't grasp that putting a MTB in a SUV takes a matter of seconds vs fitting bars and securing it on the roof which is a right faff.

I'm 6ft1.

Well we picked it up yesterday, and now I've driven it properly, I'm impressed.

Seat of the pants, it feels quicker than our old A6. I've not looked at relative weights or gearing, but it picks up pretty quickly.

It's comfy too.

Excited? Still not sure that's the correct word, but may be 'contented' is.

I guess this comes down to this being a rational purchase that feels like it ticks many boxes.

It feels like it will be comfy for long journeys - Christmas often sees us doing over 1,000 miles as we live in High Wycombe and my parents are in Northumberland, and my wife's are in North Devon. The boot is shorter but deeper than the A6, So I'm not sure how that will affect the arrangement of luggage yet, but I think it's going to be big enough. If it isn't, I'm going to struggle to get the roof box on there I think.

And finally, I do think it's a handsome looking car. I agree that it will probably blend in to the sea of grey/silver cars in a way that a Misano Red A6 didn't.

Overall, I like it.

Thanks for all the help - especially Dr G. And even the negative comments were a help in a way as they force you to truly assess what you like about the car - not that I have to justify it to anyone.
