You have to remember, that if you put claim through insurance, you will pay extra for couple of years, so it will be much more than cost of actual repair.

Just make sure that car is clean, inside and outside as it's always better and BCA inspectors seem to be nicer when car looks presentable.

Just looking for a few tips, car went back the 29th of July and I still haven't heard anything from them, is this usual? I know my mileage was over so fully expect a bill but just seems a lengthy period to pass without any correspondence.

Has anyone had experience of handing the car back and paying for damage to the car and then subsequently seeing it up for auction with the same damage that has been charged for?

Ever gone back and asked for refund based on the fact that they charged you for repairs that never actually took place

They are not actually charging for the repairs, but for potential loss at the action, because of the damage and repair work needed.

Why have a fixed schedule of costs then? Auction price can be variable and they may not actually make a loss

The car always belonged to VWFS. It's their "ball" and they'll play with their rules however that is best for VWFS.

I got invoice for excess miles after 2-3 weeks and payment was taken by direct debit. I think there was date of future payment on the invoice, can't remember.

Thanks, I will wait and see though fully expect it to land any day.

I opted to drive to Carlisle to pick the car up, thereby saving them the issue of delivery, could I argue the mileage to get me home should be deducted or am I taking the piss...

Total "bill" for 2 x kerbed alloys, scuff down to the primer on rear bumper and a 2k excess mileage ?

£50.00

He was very thorough but very fair. The alloys were within the tolerance of fair wear and tear and bumper scuff apparently was not a big issue.

Main thing is, to look after your car, even a lease car.

I have purchased a 68 plate Golf to replace the A4 and have already bought my quality tyre dressing, polish/wax. I want something for it in 4 years time !

Excess mileage is charged by VWFS not BCA, so you will get the bill in the post for that.

I've just spoken to Audi Finance who say that both inspection and collection happen on the same day. Is that normal? Seems like it's been different with a few people?

Can be, yes - inspection and collection for my Leon were a week apart, but were the same day for the Mrs' Golf, both leased through VWFS.
Final bill for mine took at least six weeks, final bill for hers arrived in less than two weeks, so no consistency there either.

I had Manheim collect my old Passat, they took ages going over the car, documented things you wouldn't notice as they went up and down the sides of the car with a reflective card looking for door dings. Document they produced said everything was ok / covered but as it's a company car I dont get the bill / wasnt told of any issues.
But Manheim is not VWFS, is it? And they are known as the worst company in this business and like to find faults and generate charges.
I used to work at a main dealer a LONG time ago and when you check cars on a daily basis you'd be surprised the stuff you learn to spot! I can still spot if a car has had paint, usually when a mate wants to show me his new car he's bought... they love that.
I personally believe that they are of the same, an old senior employee of VWFS is now running Manheim. They use Skoda's as cars, possibly share the same storage facility due to them saying it went to Isle Sheppy (where Greenpeace did the key swap/stolen thing on new cars). Afterwards it ended up on car giant.
But as it was a company car and restructuring in VW (apparently due to complaints) we now use a subsidery called Volkswagen Fleet.

At end of day just try to look after your car, I think you can ask them prior to return what do you think of X photograph for damage and then get it repaired yourself or not.

Car has just been collected. £198 for 2 dents (one is really bad) and two scuffed alloys at £36 each.

Happy with that. Anyone know if VWFS will challenge this and try charge me extra or less? I have a feeling they won’t agree with the dent...

Hi everyone.

My leased Audi S4 will be needing a new set of tyres soon. Really confused with the finance contract as they haven’t made it clear whether I have to use the exact same brand or any other brand.

Currently the car has continentals. What if I get Dunlop’s? Will this cause issues for me upon handing the car back?

Thanks in advance

There should be a list of acceptable brands in the booklet that came with your lease agreement, generally VWFS will want the car back with premium tyres so Continental, Michelin, Dunlop, Goodyear, Pirelli, Bridgestone, Uniroyal, BF Goodrich & Hankook. Avon & Nexen maybe acceptable.

Linglongs will not be acceptable.

Thanks for the info. I have gone through my contract again and it says the following:

‘Replace any worn or damaged tyres with the same factory specification as originally supplied with the vehicle. You must ensure that you replace tyres with the correct size and speed ratings. Do not mix tyres on an axle, or at all on 4 wheel drive vehicles.’

So I’m guessing I can use any brand (not cheap Chinese ones) as there’s no mention of a specific brand?

Strictly speaking, you need to choose tyres that have the same or better EU ratings than the ones it came with (fuel efficiency, wet grip, exterior noise)

In practice I suspect the inspector will just expect 'equivalent brand' tyres

Just get some decent brand part ones mate. I got one michelin pilot sport 4 18” for my GTI for £30 fitted. Had around 5mm tread when fitted, which was a day before I gave it back.

No brainer.

Related to my A6 lease going back, I came home on Thursday to a PCN on the doormat from Lambeth Council for a parking contravention the morning after the car was picked up.

When I say the morning after, I mean the early hours (0120).

Someone's been a naughty boy! Although in my opinion BCA themselves are more the culprits for allowing a freshly collected car to be out on the road like that. I asked the bloke where he was taking the car to and he said it was going to Guildford (from S London). Emailed BCA to say please sort and update me as I won't take kindly to receiving any more letters from Lambeth.

Interesting when concerning a rented car that Lambeth's "notice to owner" came to me (DVLA records?) and not via VWFS. Have had an acknowledgement of my email from BCA. If anyone's curious, I'll update!
Further to the above post on 5th August, this was confirmed by BCA as being paid/sorted on 14th August.

However! I've come home today to a brown envelope from TFL, and, sure enough, the geezer who picked up the car managed to pick up *another* (or should I say "the first") PCN a couple of hours after leaving me! Again in Lambeth, this time stopping on a red route.

I've just emailed BCA the PCN so we'll see what they say.
