Come on all you guys who have just received your cars, what's it like? and compare it to what you had before. I am going from a M235i to a S4 (arrives late July)

Looking forward to it but am a bit concerned it will be a little grown up and dull. Also starting to really regret not getting the Virtual Console.
Snap! Your situation is very similar to mine, also had a M235i on lease and I switched cars on Monday so this is only based on the last 2 days. I went with the standard ibis white with red leather, adding virtual cockpit as the only option after changing my mind after submitting the order and adding it.

Quick review:

Build quality seems very good, seems well put together and had a quality feel to the materials. It definitely feels more premium than the 235, but I guess that's a bit unfair as it's a different type of car.

Engine is decent, it goes very well and is faster than the 235 but doesn't 'feel' as fast as the 235 simply because its more composed/refined (I struggled to feel a difference between 70 and 100mph). Once the turbo kicks in it flies. Exhaust has got a raspy sounds which is a nice change to the deeper tone the 235 had.

Gearbox isn't as good as the ZF8 in the 235, seems to lag for a split second more before doing what I want it to. It's not slow by any means, it just highlights to me how good the ZF8 box was. Also be careful when using the gear selector in manual mode, the + and - are the opposite way round to the m235 so I ended up downshifting instead of up-shifting this morning, woke me up lol. The paddle shifts don't feel as good to me as the ones in the BMW did. Feels more like a button and less like a lever if that makes sense.

Interior is lovely, quilted seats look awesome in red as well as being comfortable. Had a bit of a play with the massage function, seems OK but not sure how much use it will get after the novelty has worn off. Drove it Monday night and the interior LEDs look decent, nice cool white colour. Doors also have the 4 rings as the puddle light which again is quite a cool feature. The AC control buttons are nice rocker switches than have touch sensitivity which updates the display when pressed.

Technology is excellent, virtual cockpit was well worth the £250 option. Still playing around with the view settings. The MMI is responsive and is simple to navigate. The control wheel also has touch sensitivity on the top of it so you can pinch with 2 fingers to zoom the map or draw letters when searching for contacts or entering places to navigate to etc. High beam assist seemed to work well for the 20 mins I was on the motorway for. Currently using bluetooth audio streaming which works well, haven't got round to trying android auto yet.

So overall the S4 seems to be a great bit of kit and for the cost of the lease is definitely worth it, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Yes it's a bit more grown up than the M235i but I wouldn't call it dull.

Hope that helps.

Craig

Craig.

I couldn't have wished for a more relevant and detailed reply. Thanks very much!

If you don't mind me asking how much extra a month was the Virtual Console?

The gearbox is very similar to what is used in BMWs, it is a ZF 8 speed. But according to what I have seen writtten on here there is possibly a few mechanical differences and also the manufacturers programming that affects a lot of it.

No worries beer

I didn't add VC to the lease cost and instead paid for it upfront as it was only £250. It's basically the cost of the extra divided into each monthly payment so would have been £7.81 for my 9+23 profile.

Interesting, didn't know that.

Yeah, don't get me wrong it's not a bad box by any means and in manual mode it changes perfectly well.

My gripe is more related to when in D mode and you need to accelerate away. I guess because its always shifting up a gear or 2 to be more efficient it then takes a while to change down before it finally accelerates. I didn't notice this as much in the BMW.

S4 turned up on Friday, transporter from Swindon to Aberdeen (via Fraserburgh!) A couple of black ones being delivered too so I guess there might be a few around these parts.

Not quite arranged for R estate to go back yet, but at worst it’ll be 55% of 1 months rental so not the end of the world.

S4 first impressions, very nice place to sit, MMI feels next generation compared to Golf but I suppose it is. Effortlessly fast but then so is the Golf. Going enjoy it a lot but as I only ever averaged 25 mpg in the golf I suspect I may be visiting petrol stations a bit more often in the S4.
First world problems eh!

Very nice! is that the regular white or the metallic?

I find it easy to differentiate when the two colours are parked next to each other but when they are on their own it is not so obvious to my eyes.

Just the regular "lease spec" white. I was pleasantly surprised who good the colour looks, was a bit worried it might be a bit bland after the Lapiz blue of the golf but I'm happy with the choice.

Looks nice in white, I went for the basic black as hopefully the silver trim will set it off nicely.

I'm like you, got a Lapiz R Wagon here until September, but looking at sending it back early as the S4 should be here very soon.

I went to Swindon audi (my local dealer), and they didn't have any S4's in to look at.

Stay strong my friend. Handing the R back early is the best way to make a great lease deal a bad lease deal (at least that’s what I’m telling myself!)

Has anyone with a lease been able to setup the Audi Connect? My car never came with the vehicle code on the keyring that the phone app talks about. Google earth appears to work fine so I would assume they've set it up and I can't set myself as the 'primary user'?

Also the car arrived this morning covered in swirl marks and marring. Only noticed it when the sun came round the front of the house, it looks awful. Going to contact the lease company to see what they say.

You need the keyring thingy. My S5 is set up with me as primary user.

Can you track your cars location and lock/unlock it via the MMI connect app? I think they depend on being primary user.

Collecting the S4 today, tremendously excited! That may explain just the 5 hours sleep I had last night.

For those with a current lease car hanging on waiting till after Sept for delivery of yr S4, beware that it will prob be on a 18 plate and NOT a 68 plate.

My Golf R Wagon is due to go back early Sept so I was getting my S4 delivered then, however I found out yesterday that the S4 is at the dealers and due to the WLPT issues 90 % of new cars will need to be taxed and therefore Registered before end of August.

So I decided to give VWFS a call and get a quote to see how much penalty to return my Golf Early, as someone said its 55% of the remaining lease. As I only have 1 month to pay, I thought great and it will save me going over my mileage allowance. Also note if you return it early the mileage allowance is pro-rata so you will lose that time period.

Still gonna ship it back early, and once I return from the USA I will arrange delivery of my new S4 .. can't wait. although I have loved the Golf R :-)

Can anyone with a delivered lease S4 check their expirey date for the Audi Connect features. As above, mine were pre-setup and appear to expire in November 2019. I thought it came with a 3 year subscription?
