Hello all

I expect this might be a totally idiotic question, so forgive me. I've recently bought a 2016 Polo GTi with the DSG box. I'm sure it's in the owner's manual (which I don't have with me right now) but I've been trying to figure out what the silver button on the shift knob does. Google does not seem to help. Can anyone enlighten me, please?

Thanks in advance!

Isn’t it the unlock button for the gearstick?

If it’s anything like my DSG box, you press it to remove the car from park to drive, but you can move freely between D N R without it when stationary

I'm sure I must be missing something, because if it's the button I'm thinking of you won't have been able to drive the car?

No, I've had it for about 3 weeks now!

So...it was indeed the button that unlocks the gear lever. I've just been unlocking it subconsciously, it seems, and then when driving around, have been thinking it was something to do with the DSG...

Anyway, thanks all!

Turbo boost button. Press it while racing other cars.

You can freely move between D/S and N without pressing the button. R is locked out with the button. I think you can shift out of R into N but not the other way round.

You've seen Fast and Furious movies, surely. Where do you think the hidden extra 17 gears are? smile

To be honest, shtu...I still find it vaguely ridiculous that it has 7 gears!
