Will be starting a 150 mile perday round trip commute soon.

Have had 2 Audi A6 3.0tdi before (A6-C6 Le mans) had no issues with them and miss them.

Am in two minds now between A6 (C7) or maybe an A8 (D4) both 3.0tdi.

Each 75 mile journey will be 90% motorway M27/M3 probably outside lane steady 80mph.

Will I see 40mpg from the A8?....take it they all have air suspension which will be a new thing to me...is it noticeably a nicer ride than traditional A6 springs?

Same engine but is the A8 any likely to be more unreliable?

I tend to buy 1 owner from new FSH only.

Anything in particular on the A8 I should look out for?

Thanks for any advise!

You may see 35-40mpg from A8 3.0tdi if you're not stuck in traffic. I get that on motorways in UK and Europe, with average speeds from 50 to 70mph and steady drive. Mpg results from full to full tank, not car computer. My total average from 12K miles is 37mpg.

Not sure what's your budget, but there are nicely specced A8 Black Editions coming back from leases, 66 plates onwards.

Hi Pitstop - any idea where I can find the A8 cars - I am thinking about a A8 next.
What sort of budget are you talking about ?
Is it just a question of trawling through the used Audi website ?
Cheers

I watch prices on Autotrader, plenty of filtering options and alerting. I'm keeping an eye on A8 Black Edition to see how it depreciates over time. Prices starting from £26K for that model, 66 plate.

I’ve had both D4 A8 3.0tdi and now an A6 allroad bitdi.
A8 slightly comfier but feels bigger all round and certainly more cumbersome on A roads. There isn’t much in it for comfort but A8 is better on motorway whereas Allroad less in your face and feels more planted on A roads.

Of the two, both hit nearly 40mpg average (A6 over 20k miles is almost exactly 40mpg which is pretty good given the performance on offer.)
My journey is about 70miles per day of which some 55miles is on motorway.
