OR... by chassis code: 8J vs 8S

I've been looking at buying a TT-RS for quite some time, specifically the previous model - mk2 (8J).

I have a budget of around £20k - so I should be able to find a good example mk2 with DSG.

I love everything about the mk3, but it's outside of my budget to buy, however PCP is an option.

Before making my decision I would like to know if the mk2 offers anything over the mk3? Both have the 5pot engine, both have 4-wheel drive-trains. To give some context... the current M3 is a six pot turbo, the previous M3 was a NA V8 - same models but very different cars.

Any thoughts welcome smile

Only benefit I can see (mk2) is the extra cash you’d have in the bank account for upgrades

Looks are subjective but I much prefer the mk3, interior is lovely too.

I tested a mk2 TTRS but went for a Mk3 TTS instead.

Yep I was about to suggest the same thing, surely a Mk3 TTS is the answer here!

It is very nearly as quick and much more modern with a far nicer interior.

I ended up finding a very similar thread on here from a year ago and the conclusion was the same... the mk3 is better in virtually every way.

Even the proposition of being able to own a full fat tt-rs mk2 isn't enough to outweigh what you get in a mk3 tts for the same money... according to the posts.

Problem is I have an itch for a 5pot.
