Agreed regarding smart money and Black Edition, it had crossed my mind, but for me, anything but Black Edition doesn’t cut it.

Hoping if the lease car is enjoyable that it is offered to me for sale at a reasonable price.

Hi ,

Is everyone enjoying their Black Edition Tregs?

I’ve just put down a deposit on a 2020 Black Edition. 2k miles. What do you guys class as a good lease deal? I want to make sure I am not missing something before I proceed. I’m buying cash but could be swayed if the leases are good..My wife does 15k mikes a year. Best I’ve found is around £32k over 4 years. Which works out about £666 per month. VW PCP deal are awful on used cars at 9.9%.

We have had the two previous model Tregs, R-Line and Altitude and ran them both for over 4 years each, so we tend to keep them a while. I think the Treg is underrated and better value vs Audi and X5 etc....
I got mine in July during the Covid deals for £460pm and I think I paid about £1500 down (they contributed £1k to deposit so should’ve been about £2.5k) also had the 3 month payment holiday. 8k mikes a year, 2 year lease.

Very pleased with it. As somebody had said previously it doesn’t feel like a 4X4, more like a jacked up golf. Having come from a GLE the ride feels a lot lower.

The equipment it comes with is second to none, although as stated before the touch screen is a mind field. I’ve had the car since July and still find it a bit uncomfortable trying to navigate my way through it whilst driving.

Hi All, Just returned to this thread and didnt expect to see lots of chatter - the thread didnt get any traction to start so I had abandoned it for the most part. Made up to see more people leaving comments :-)

In terms of Google Maps it wasnt active when the car arrived so it there was a setting or two to get it working. If anyone needs help I can try and advise. Regards VDCS, there doesnt appear to be the option to turn the lighting different colours. The one part I am gutted about is not having the optional ambient lighting but my car was a pre-order so I couldnt change the spec.

What I am aware of is that via VDCS you can activate the Dynaudio sound profile thus making the stereo sound much better. I am researching more about this at the moment.

The car is my wifes as I got one of the 840i cheap leases earlier in the year but we use it as the main weekend car. Overall I love it but here is my two-pence worth;

Likes
- Looks. I think its one of the best looking SUVs out there especially in Black Edition spec. There is something very 'tonka truck' about it and it looks mean from the front with the lights on especially.
- Spec (Black Edition) - bar a fancy stereo and the ambient lighting there isnt anything missing
- Engine - smooth and refined for a diesel and very gutsy. I was and am still surprised at how quick it can move
- Performance - exceeded my expectations
- MPG - very reasonable. Getting over 30mpg around town and seen 45mpg on the motorway. Neither my wife or I are lightfooted
- Comfort - The ride comfort for something this big and heavy on 21" wheels is outstanding
- Space - tons of it

Gripes
- Ambient lighting not standard on this top spec model
- Some lower quality scratchy plastics especially on the lower half of the interior
- Basic switchgear - some of the switches are very square and cheap like the memory seats on the driver door. However, acknowledge this is how VW and Audi for example differentiate themselves
- Odd occasion the gearbox can be lazy but this is a very minor issue for me. Wifes previous Audi A6 40tdi was horrendous for gearbox lag and laziness
- Everything operated from touchscreen. You get used to it but i like actual switches for things like climate control
- Seats - a little too firm but they are getting better the more they are used

Anybody has any questions give me a shout. I have to say I really like this car - never had an SUV before but the visibility, comfort, space and gusto make a great combo and I love driving it.

Not really planning any mods - might wrap the front lip that is for some reason chrome even on the black edition. Tempted to have the calipers done red but my wife wont care so might not bother.

Looking forward to taking delivery at the end of December. I know the Black Edition has air suspension but does it include rear wheel steer as part of the standard spec?

Was a little worried about getting ours after some comments here, but looking forward to it now, mines a white one also.

The enhanced audio would be good if you get any more info on that.

Edited to add, found the VCDS info:

dynaudio profile for non dynaudio sound systems
1. Select the " 56 - Radio" unit.
2. Enter the section " 07 - Encoding " and press " Long encoding "
3. Byte 4 - replace the value 01 with the value 00
4. Save and exit

Taken from here:

https://www.clubtouareg.com/threads/summary-of-vag...

I have no idea if the info is correct and I don't have VCDS to try.

Just over 1 month in with the Touareg and although I don't use it too much I have managed to rock up 1K miles so my thoughts.

Stuff I don't like (no real surprises)

Everything is touchscreen = Bad. Takes your eyes of the road to do simple task like HVAC adjustment. Maybe after sometime this will become second nature but at the moment I don't like because you cant get comfortable.

It does feel like a jacked up estate rather then a true 4x4 like the MK1 of old.

The interior is nice for a £30K-£40K car but I would feel much more comfortable spending £60K ish on a range rover sport.

The auto box is slow, mixed with light and slightly disconnected steering feel makes it Its difficult to drive smoothly and get a rhythm at low speeds.

No low range.

Stuff I like

The engine. Its great. Lovely V6 TDI, pulls well and averaging 40mpg on a 200 mile trip. Middle 30's dotting around.

Terrific looks. Park it up and I double take. That would never happen with a X5 Q7 etc. The proportions are great and one of the few car the 'black grill, wheels etc' enhance rather than the chrome. Its not too flash and also has a presence that very few cars pull off.

Very comfortable, even with the large 21" wheel.

Solid and well built. Nothing you think mmm that wont last. Just works.

It contrast to my comments above at medium to high speeds its wonderful. The steering and chassis begin to work together and once the engine is singing it becomes a joy to drive, better that the 5 series that it replaced.

Also it feels like it will go far offroad.

Overall it's great. I wouldn't spend big money on a new one as ultimately it feels like a very large golf. But the lease deal was a snip and ultimately its a very capable machine.

Car prices have moved on substantially now . It will cost you over £40k for a golf gti now .
They are designed to get you off a grassy field . A RR is much more expensive to lease and less reliable .
A Q7 is much prettier and gets better tech but again more expensive to lease.
For the money a tourag its a extremely good value vehicle, downside too big.

What they dont tell you is the payment holiday can affect your credit rating?

Lease isn’t extended and payment hasn’t increased.

I can’t see how a payment holiday can effect credit rating?
