VW Touareg Lease Deal
Discussion
High Speed Ride Quality (286 Black Edition)
Did the longest trip yet - mainly high speed motorway over Easter weekend. While I generally leave things in Comfort mode on a day to day basis, as acceleration/gearbox response seems perfectly rapid, I did notice this mode perhaps not suited to “high” speed cruising on the motorway. There seemed to be too little body control with suspension having too much vertical play and the ride almost never settling from a slow bounce - at least over the Gloucestershire M5. Never felt unsafe but just a little disconcerting.
Sport felt too jittery to be comfortable at the “higher” speeds.
So my conclusion is Normal mode best for “high” speed cruising, where as Comfort still best/most relaxing for c.70 mph.
BTW this was with 2 chunky adults and 1 large bag onboard
Would welcome any of your own views and experiences so far……!

We are nearly 36 months into our lease and over 40k miles and still as happy as the day we received it. Only problem we’ve had is the condensation/frozen inner windscreen but that has gone now. We are signed up until July 24 and are going to see if we can buy it outright.
Dont blame you. Don't be afraid to haggle a bit on the price they give you and ask them a buy price 6 months from the end and go back for a refreshed one every 30 days. When its close to what you would pay, haggle. Not saying it will 100% work but going through auction is always a risk to them so they are sometimes up for negotiation. One year in now on our BE.
Love it on the motorway, when it's full to the gunwales of kids and luggage, it's fab.
As soon as it's in town and doing 0-15-0 then I find the gearbox awful, the worst I've ever had.
Previous Touareg shape was not like this at all.
Even engine breaking itself changing down as you slow to a halt it jerks.
The "safety" features are keen to kill me. Lane keeping assist is pants. I'll just nudge right by a smidge to avoid the parked car on the left, woooft, nope the car would rather I hit the car than cross the white lines.
See the person driving ahead of you is turning left, you can continue straight and oh no, car slams on.
I'd pay extra not to have these features.
We have it for 2 more years. VW said it was the gearbox learning!!
Righto.
Current tank has done 500 and has a range of 40 left.
No issues there.
And it looks great.
Mixed feelings.
Wouldn't get another purely down to gearbox.
Maybe it's a Friday 4pm build.

They all come on at the start of each engine start (if you see what I mean) even if you had them off.
It's 4 clicks (1 left hand 3 right hand) on the steering wheel to switch off LKA which I do once I'm reminded to, after it's attempted to kill me on the trip.
The missus is better at remembering and switches it off before she presses drive.
Shame it can't be coded to default off.

1 litre of oil
Yep - less than 2,500 miles and the Check Oil level message appeared.
After faffing around in the drizzle trying to find the dipstick - I realised these use electronic displays in sub menu for oil level (v6 tdi).
So it said I needed to add “a quart of oil” (1.1 litres apparently - so a quick pit stop at Texaco and £10 lighter - oil is added. But the system still won’t tell me what the oil level is….. “wait 2 minutes for system”
It has had generally light use - any body else having to add oil at less than 2500 miles?? (3.0 tdi 286)

Sorry no oil warnings on mine.
Had a 1 year service where I like to think it was changed.
As an aside, the only way to tell how it's getting on for Adblu is from the app.
App says 1400 miles until it needs doing, but I'm hoping the car will eventually say "stick X amount of adblu in" as Ive no idea what it needs until it tells me.
You'd think with less than 2000 to go it would have said something.

My oil light has come on. Car is 6 months old with 3,100 miles. Our last black edition with the same engine didn't do this and the fact there is no dipstick is bonkers.
Its going into VW as I don't want to risk over filling it as i suspect its a sensor issue.
I did get the oil level graphic to work - it’s now c.80% between min and max. Google says the engine has a 9 litre oil capacity - so am presuming the 1 litre I added was fine - never occurred to me I might over fill due to a potential sensor issue……last 100 miles since top up have been fine touch wood. Its going into VW as I don't want to risk over filling it as i suspect its a sensor issue.
Had ours 16 months now.
Still think the gearbox is pants, and the LKA tries to kill me 3 times a day if I don't switch it off.
The front crash alert is occasionally a "new underpants please" causer too.
Other than that it's a great machine and decent mpg too.
We pay just below £600 a month with a 1 x deposit.
Think those days are long gone now.

Sadly I would have to agree about the gearbox and some of the safety features being a little too sensitive, other than that it’s an impressive package with all the kit you could need. The 3 litre diesel is rather good, it can certainly shift when needed albeit I find myself sitting back in comfort most of the time seemingly floating along the road - also happier with it now fuel is a little more affordable ;-)
