Really encouraging to hear that the ride on the 22's is still 90% as good as the BE with 21's. Like you, comfort is a big priority for me, and I was worried the larger wheels and lower profile tyres might ruin the refinement a bit, especially on typical UK roads. Sounds like VW have done a decent job balancing it.

Also appreciate your take on the powertrain. I ve heard the X5 50e is a bit of a benchmark in this space, so it s good to know the R still holds its own, even if it s not quite as cutting-edge. For day-to-day driving, quiet and smooth EV running with a seamless engine handover is probably all I really need. Likewise, most of my local trips fall well within EV range, so the cost savings would definitely add up, especially with home charging.

Definitely making me lean even more towards the R eHybrid. I'm speaking with the dealership I got my 2021 BE from about getting the Touareg R later today, if the numbers work out then I think I might get it, but I'd like it in white with the black wheels like the BE I enjoyed.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts once yours arrives sounds like a great spec with the Silicon Grey too.
White with black wheels sounds great, same as our first BE. Current one is Aquamarine. I looked at Silicon with black wheels but the diamond cut seemed to suit best against the grey paint. Hopefully the numbers work out for you.

Just had an update to say my car is built and on its way to the UK from the factory so its possible I might have it before the month is out.

Great news! It should be with you within a few weeks now.
After a fair bit of back and forth on a new in stock R Hybrid ready to be registered in white but with the diamond cut estoril wheels we made a deal! I am considering getting the wheels redone in black but will depend on how much and how long it would take.
Will sort out the paperwork today with a view to get it sometime next week! Super excited and looking forward to getting in it soon.

Just had an update, the Hybrid R has landed at the UK port and should be at the dealer within a week. All happening far quicker than initially anticipated.

Have to get organised for the current Touareg collection - get the ghost removed asap and the PPF around the boot lip.

Thought it wasnt arriving for at least another month!

VW are working hard to get these out on the road ASAP!
PPF around the boot lid is smart, great idea, I'm going to look to get this done too at the same.time as the dashcam install.

Once I have given mine a good clean ill send a pic of the PPF around the boot and rear bumper - its saved the car from some scratches that's for sure and Ill have it done on the new one as well.
Any ETA on getting yours? Realistically mine should be at the dealer end of this week but I need a few more weeks to get everything sorted with mine and get it collected (private plate swap out etc)

Got my new car yesterday! I've been busy setting up the infotainment system but I'm having trouble adding myself as the main user. I've called VW digital support a few times and am waiting for a fix. I'm hoping it's not a module issue, but I'll have to be patient and see.
I'm planning to take it for a good drive today, and I'll snap a pic when I get a chance. I wasn't sure about the Estoril rims at first, but they're already growing on me—the design really has some depth.

Once the infotainment issue is sorted I'll get the boot ppf done along with the dashcam etc.

Really enjoying driving the car when I get a chance to take it out. It is very smooth and comfortable even on the 22s. My only issue with the car so far has been setting myself as the primary user. The car and my VW ID just don't link, the issue has been escalated so I am hoping its resolved soon. I hope you don't have the same issue. From what I understand, it is the eSIM activation which can take 7 days after handover but its been longer for me. Let me know how you get on with it, hopefully not unlucky like me.

Whilst not cheap (is anything these days) these are the best lease prices I have seen in a while for these;

286 Diesel Black Ed

Hybrid R

Nice car - how many have you had now? biggrin

Is yours a late enough build that it has physical steering wheel buttons?

Haha its our third. White 286 Black Ed, Aquamarine 286 Black Ed now this. Love them to be fair. Did look at an X5 this time but once up to the same spec £300 a month more.

Yes it has the physical steering wheel buttons. Definitely better but I didn't find the haptic an issue personally but you cant beat proper buttons.

Congratulations! Looks great in the grey.
The physical buttons are on the steering wheel are refreshing, much better than the touch buttons on the previous Touaregs.

Well here's a thing !!

Ive ordered another one too.....

Same colour combo but gone for another diesel delivery due September. Not a big fan of the new BE wheels but can live with them. Tempted to get the R but for my potential mileage the diesel still makes sense. Loving the colour BTW.

I still miss the BMW 840i, great deal never to be seen again thoroughly enjoyed it but the dog loves the Touareg as do I :-)

Haha no way! Hope your well mate! Yeah that 840 deal.....best one I had. I offered £40k to buy it but Leasys wouldnd budge from £45k. It ended up on a dealer forecourt at £39,999 so clearly they lost out.

Anyway, you cant go wrong with the diesels. I know what you mean about the wheels but the dark ones are not to bad. Im 50/50 on Lapiz Blue and the wife hates it so Grey was the way to go.

Not long till Sept then! Have to share a pic when it lands.

All good thanks, how are you finding the R thus far ?

Like you I looked at the X5 and very nearly took the Hybrid but backed out, monthly's were just too much of a commitment and surprised that the boot space was only 500 ltr same as a 3 series touring so that made my mind up, nothing else out there I would really go for other than another Touareg. Monthlys on the new one not far off the deal I took 3 years ago, slightly less mileage, but happy enough with that.

Did a 1K mile round trip to Cornwall recently and the car was great, fast, sure footed, quiet with plenty of room...a bit scary down those off the beaten track ultra narrow lanes but all good muscle clenching stuff. ;-)

Really enjoying the R and a very different experience. Had it since the 4th Aug and done 95% on ev so far. Really quite quick off the line but do miss the mid range punch of the diesel torque. Facelift tightens a couple of things inside. Glad I got another before they pull the plug on them next year.

Another end of an era... but great to enjoy the last few whilst we can.

I wonder if they will celebrate the end of the line with a special edition like the slightly tweaked edition 20.

Always thought they missed an opportunity with not upping the V6 diesel engine output to match the BMW 4.0D as its more than capable of doing so, but I guess that time has come and gone.

Ive received my car today, pleased with it, my second Touareg but I have the same problem in setting myself up as Primary User. Did your issue resolve itself or did you have to seek dealer advise ?
