Got it changed so it all fitted back together and even with the labour the cost was only £100 or so.

Will try to remember to look out the invoice for mine as used a specialist with OE parts
Just tried my usual indy, and he quoted the same price as Adrian (£343).

Did yours definitely use OEM?

Looks like pattern parts are also available at slightly more realistic prices.

Strange. Thanks. Interesting it says not for S4 though. Might drop them a note to clarify.

Missed that. Odd... Maybe it's just that the finish may not be an exact match? (Still cheaper just to buy a pair, or only look at one side of the car at a time...)

FWIW I just put the full audi part no into google.

Dug out the invoice but it doesn't quote a part number. thinking back maybe the cover polished out and they replaced a clip of something. Parts total was £27 or so

Autodoc and buycarparts says that the above part number is wrong (so they are correct that the one in the screen shot won't fit an S4), and the correct number is 8F0 857 527A, ie. an "F" not a "T".

Confused confusedconfused

Adrian, are they talking rubbish? Thanks!

If I search by that part number it comes up as correct for 2008- but then so does the 't' version. They may be the same, but to be definitive you'd need a part number via a main dealer based on your VIN (I can't search by VIN) to know what Audi thinks is correct.

That variation usually relates to the model designation so 8T shows in the front of my service book for the S5 Sportback, but I believe Audi just started to use it interchangeably for common parts across B8 platform.

^^^^ thanks Adrian. It's a minefield. I'll drop into the dealers one day next week and see what light they can shed. Probably the same part!

Will take a look on ebay for a cheaper one though.

Hi all, happy new year.

I updated my iPhone to the latest iOS and now when I connect the AMI cable it just sits at 'loading'.

Maybe I need to update my entertainment firmware, is there a link to the latest software?

I think I may already have this version from 2016

Been debating about getting an S4 Avant for a while, need something more practical than my f10 520d with a baby on the way and a dog i needed a hatchback or estate, drove an 8p s3, didn’t do much for me.

Kept umming and arring about having an estate at 28 years old, but I saw one local to me, went to see it today as it’s on way home from work, drove it and loved it, deal was done.

Car is 63 plate black edition, in black, not the best specced car, but don’t drive hard enough to think I’ll notice the lack of sports diff, and only thing It doesn’t have which I think I’ll miss is folding mirrors, which isn’t the the end of the world. Has heated super sport seats, B&O and all the toys I’ll need.

First car I’ve driven over 300bhp, can’t believe how quick it picked up speed, and how planted it felt, can’t wait to get it, luckily I only have to wait until tomorrow morning to pick it up!

Sounds lovely, I’m sure you will appreciate the B&O, Sports Seats and colour combination over folding mirrors!

Enjoy it!

Folding mirrors are by no means essential, just when I had the 520d, it was parked up with 2 cars in front and 2 behind on my road, and all of the cars had the mirrors kicked off apart from might, might of been a coicendence, but with how expensive the s4 mirrors are it would of been nice.

First impressions are it’s quick, and sounds lovely, especially under hard acceleration when it pops when upshifting and blips the throttle on downshifts, only drove it for a few hours so far and it’s been raining hard, car obviously likes a drink when pressed, but was considering a c63 so every cloud.

One thing I noticed is I have the button on the boot to close it, but can’t seem to open it with the key? Was this an extra option? Or am I missing something.

Overall very impressed and haven’t even got close to exploring all its details and power, very happy with it and when I do get bored quick trip to Revo will transform it again.

Not sure if all the same but mine will open from the button on the boot, the button on the drivers door card or the centre button on the key.

As standard it would only close from the button inside the boot but, after several passengers not understanding this (plus it being a bit odd) I modded it to close from both the key and the driver's door switch.

Have you tried holding the boot button down for a few seconds, it takes longer than a lock / unlock press.

And, I think you have to have the car unlocked first? Even if you do open it with the fob, you can't close it that way. If I could have deleted that option, I would have done!

For anyone interested, here's a writeup of the mod I did to allow the tailgate to close from the key or door switch on my S4, 2014 B8 model:

My S4 Avant has the electric tailgate that can be opened from the tailgate, driver's door panel or remote key, however to close it requires pressing the button inside the tailgate. At least once I've had to get out of the car to close it after a passenger didn't/couldn't close the tailgate.

I don't know why it doesn't also close from the key/door and it can't be programmed/coded (VCDS) to do so.

I bought this module from BexPro in Germany; http://shop.bexpro.co/en/tailgate-modules/12-bx-ct...

Compact module and a simple enough installation as there are only 4 wires to connect.

Works perfectly; everything is still as before except that both the opening button on the driver's door and on the key will now also close the tailgate.

Had to remove the tailgate trim to get at the wiring but I mounted the module inside the RH rear light bulb replacement door so that I have easy access to it if required;

Hopefully this might be of interest to someone.

Thanks, seems I wasn’t being patient enough holding the button, and the car was locked, loving the car at the moment, averaged just under 20mpg on my 3mile drive to work, same as my my old e46 330ci, so am pleased with that! To be fair the 520d didn’t get far off that at it didn’t even get warm on the journey.
