So far so good.

I drove 200 miles on the t1r and have disliked them on other cars all though to be fair didnt push them hard on the Griff.

Rainsports fitted and they feel fine so far (20 or so miles). I Also had the front alignment done and it feels a lot better at speed now. What was also a lucky find was a fitter who has had and wants another Griff so he gave the car a good look over. He checked all the joints, chassis etc.. and said it was a good one.
Only point of note was the ARB brace on the passenger side rear wishbone which he noted has a small bend in it. Apparently something that happens on most and on occasion breaks completely.

Anyway.. overall a good service @ f1autocenter Colchester
Pleased to hear you like them. Just had the Rainsports changed on my Saab by F1 at Newark. They beat the cheapest online price, so cannot fault them.

I’ve got the same on one, it’s actually broken.
Seconded, known weak spot. Stronger replacement brackets are available as a replacement part, they cost about a tenner each and are easy to weld back on the lower wishbones with the car on a lift, any garage can do it in half an hour, an hour tops. smile

Which is what I should have done ages ago but I want them powder coated hehe new bushes and,,,,,,,
So they have sat in the corner for months if not over a year.
Be a nice job when done and might add some decent rigidity for the drop links. thumbup

The tread pattern looks like at Toyo version of the Rainsport, let’s hope they’re better than the T1R.
Back to the OP, I run R888Rs all round on original sizes.

I asked on here about the new TR1s (see here: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... ) and it seems nobody has yet. I plan to try them on my mk1 MX5 (195/50/15) once my current T1Rs run out of tread, it'll be interesting if they're improved over the T1Rs.

Not sure if they do fitments that you require but the Toyo R1R are a lovely gripping tyre …..basically track day rubber compound with a road tyre tread...… works well given a variable weather over the last few years

Just fitted a new pair of T1-Rs to the front in the 15in PAS fitting. Have them on the rear 16s as well.
Wanted to try the Rainsports, but very limited sizes in the 15s.

I have had R1Rs in the past, albeit not on the Griff) and was very impressed with them.

I currently have Rainsport 3's on the daily driver and am equally impressed with them.

Almost did but couldn't bring myself I disliked the old T1R so much. smile

Just bought a set of Kumho Ecsta Le Sport KU39s but haven't fitted them yet. Had good reviews.

Bought these to replace my worn R1Rs that have been great but sadly are no longer available.

Generally struggled to get any size of good tyres for the fronts, 235/40/17.

I would be very interested to hear how you rate those, especially compared to the R1R which I know well.

I am sure you will keep us updated.

I am currently on R1Rs and only rate them 70%. I treat them with a lot of respect in damp conditions, and have been surprised by the lack of grip in the dry.
I have a set of Rainsport 3s to fit next for road use.....just getting my 17 inch wheels refurbished first. They have been wonderful on my Saab for the last 50,000 miles.

Had this fitted last week. What a revelation!

The ride quality on these tyres compared to the old tyres is incredible!

The Toyos gripped really well but the ride quality was crashy and hard, something I thought I would have to put up with, with uprated suspension but I was wrong!

I can only assume that the Toyos have far stiffer sidewalls and therefore give a far harder and less forgiving ride.

I've done a couple of drive outs now around our poor quality Surrey country lanes and I am extremely impressed and have actually fallen in love with countryside driving again.

Even though they are brand-new and need bedding in, grip at slightly more than sensible speeds is absolutely fine but these are only for my road wheels and as long as they give this comfort and reasonable grip that is all I ask for.

Very impressed.

Then my clutch fork failed............c'est la vie.

I removed the rear ARB a couple of years ago now.
I’ve got some stronger braces to replace the weaker Tvr ones when I eventually get round to do the job.
I don’t really miss the rear arb for road driving.
T1R are ok and reasonsble in the dry but compared to Rainsport like solid rubber and nowhere near the grip.
You’ve made a good choice.
Interesting re no rear anti roll bar. I drove my Griff for a day without it, whilst i had removed it to clean and re paint it and just could not wait to re fit it !!

My old 92 reg. 4.3 Griffith never had a rear ARB. They were not fitted until the 500's arrived.

With the way my car is set up an ARB is essential.

I removed it for one session at Curborough Sprint and the handing was awful!

Thanks Phased. Great feedback on the khumo's.

Interesting comments on the anti roll bar. My car hasn't got one as it left the factory without it. I have never been that bothered as I have read so many comments that it doesn't make much difference.

Is your car set up particularly hard for the track or in some special way? What was the difference without the bar fitted?
