I know the fronts came in either 205 or 225, which I believe was for non-PAS and PAS respectively but what about the rears? I've seen posts saying stock is a 225 on the rear but mine are 245/45 16s. Did TVR change their minds at some point on tyre sizes or is it related to engine size?

Rob

FYI, I need new rears this year.

It may depend on the age of the car as well as PAS 9or not) and/or eng size.

My precat came with 215's on the front and 225's on the rear.

Do you have the original handbook? If so, what does it say in there?

I think precats were 225/50 and 500s were 245/45 on the rear.

Mine is a '97 500 and it is 245 on the rear in the handbook but that size is not available in some of the recommended tyres I've seen discussed. If all 500s had the 245 then I think I will stick with it but was pondering about the 225s mentioned by others as there are more tyres available in this size.

I wouldn't get too hung up on stock sizes - far more important is to get tyres that give you top quality grip in all conditions, from monsoon to dry track day.

A lot of the Chimaera boys, especially with 17 inch wheels, have been raving about Uniroyal Rainsport 3s. These are A rated for rain, but will also handle a high speed track dry day without trouble. Most importantly, they give far better grip in every day road conditions, like sudden damp corners, bends that tighten, and wet roundabouts. The sort of conditions that can make both you and the car look like you have been through a hedge backwards - because you have.

They come in 205/55 15 and 205/50 15 for the front, and for the rears they do 215/55 and 225/55 16.
I would be fitting 205/55 15 fronts and 215/55 16 rears myself on standard wheels.

I have them on my Saab, and they are awesome in all weathers.
I would have them on my Chim, but the Toyo R1Rs presently on there are proving hard to wear out.

Mine was 215/50-15 on the front and 225/50/16 on the rear.

Those fronts are only available at silly prices and the choice is bugger all.

I am going for rainsport 3's at the original size on the rear and 205/55-15 on the fronts.

Like you, I have them on other cars. I have also had R1R on other cars and really liked them. If I could get them in those sizes I would seriously consider them now.
