All Griff speedometers have an electronic speed sensor input.
By early Griff, do you mean the Stuart Warner gauge which has "zero" in the One O'clock position?
When I was looking around for a second hand one of these, I did find some for sale that looked the same but had cable drives. I assume these came from a late S or a late Wedge.
The 350 i that I used to own had a cable drive. I suspect that the S's did as well, but don't know for sure.

Thanks guys, a mate is looking at exchanging with a late S speedo which is electronic, his speedo is one which is smaller diameter than later ones.
Another little issue, some speedo's are 4 pulse and some 8... it may read twice or half as fast unless it matches the gearbox transducer There was another further down the listing for 80GBP that looked in better condition. Looks like thats gone to a new owner as well 'cause I can't find it now.
Edit: Found it..........
