Formula, Italian or Monza Red

Hopefully you learned people can give me some advice. I have a Griffith 4.3 and need some paint for the door mirrors. I am unsure about the colour. The code on the engine bay is P420 KV52. I was told it was Formula Red. The book says Rosso Red Flamencorot. Code 1628 839. I have checked the number with a couple of paint suppliers and KV52 is coming up as Italian or Monza Red. But this has the code as P146 KV52. As it is the mirrors I think it would be okay to not be a perfect match but I also want to do the stone chips. As it is a 1992 car I am thinking it is likely to be an S3 colour so P146 KV52. Has anyone had experience of getting a KV52 colour with the prefix being wrong. I understand this is more a manufacturer code. Grateful for your thoughts.

I can't help on the paint code . But that paintwork is surprisingly good for a 30 year old car , especially a red one . Reds of that era tend to fade , and I guess the original was not water based as all paints have been for the last 15 or so years . So are you sure the paintwork is original ? If it isn't the original paint code may not be of much use.
PS Place to check if it's been resprayed are top edge of windowscreen (where the roof panel slots into) or inside edges of doors and boot which a poor respray job often miss, no guarantee but worth a check.

A paint code will not give you a match. My advice if you’re determined to have paint done would be a good corrective machine polish before getting some one then to check for a match with a spectrometer.

My advice = that’s would I would do.

I had checked for any respray and can’t find any. Checked under door seals, around front light pods etc. I think as has been recommended is to get a match against the car. I live near Portsmouth so I think my best bet will be to go to Autopaints Brighton unless anyone has some recommendations of somewhere closer.
