I went down to Kits and Classics to get Joolz to run the car on the dyno and, if required, do some tweaking.

The car is a standard 4.3 (no indication that it is a big valve one), apart from the car has a new cam which is a v8 development 'stealth'.

I was hoping for 250 bhp plus but was pleasantly surprised. 283 bhp!

Torque was about 292/293 lb ft

There was no real need to do any tweaks so the car wasn't touched.

Anyone with a 4.3 got similar results?

Great result, I’d be happy with that if it is mostly standard.

Wow, that's excellent. How many miles has it done and was the cam part of a rebuild? What extra would the hot cam make over standard, 10/20 bhp?

I suspect that's very nearly as much bhp as 500s made fresh from the factory (although the 500 no doubt has a chunk more torque).

No idea what my 4.3 makes and don't care as she is plenty fast enough for me. Makes a rather nice noise as well!

That a fantastic result, lovely flat torque and power all the way though to almost 6k.

I would personally leave that as it is and just enjoy it.

Agreed, you really cannot beat a 4.3 Precat and that lovely sounding revvy engine.

It’s done 65k miles. It was due a cam as I had no power above 4K and was on the original so I chose the v8 developments stealth after they said that the 4.3 can have those. I think they said it gives better performance at the top end than the mc1.

It’s had no other engine work as far as I’m aware in it’s life.

I’m not sure how it compares in bhp vs the mc1 cam or a Kent 214 (which it came with from factory I think).

I think it’s bone stock apart from the stealth.

Hi, just to add. My previous 4.3 seemed quicker than my current 500. So not surprised the power figures overlap. But, eventually I couldn’t live with the (amazing) noise on a run. 30 mins good, any longer bad! 500 has more torque, plus 10dB quieter…

That surprises me Nic.

My 4.3 is completely stock and I find it quite civilised when cruising.

They are great numbers. I had mine done at the Griff Growl a few years ago and it was the same kind of straight line 'curve' but 264hp

Yep. Surprised the market hasn't recognised that yet.

Ref the noise, my 4.3 exhaust wasn’t standard. Maybe explains it! Although the 500 is quieter, the quietest TVR, I believe. Nic

Mine did 270/270 a few years back.

Then, well things went south.

I do Not understand why the more common Catted 500 has stronger pricing than this near 'perfect' variation.....
Enough performance without excessive traction overwhelming torque
Free revving
Best sound by far, with no Compulsory Cats - unforgettable from idle to, Muscle, to Nascar, to near old F1
Arguably better ride
Low number left on the road compared to more common 400 and readily available 500

Given prices of alternative cars to TVR right now, I would put the following values on Griff range:

400: 19k
500: 22k
430: £25k
450: £29k

Assuming good condition and normal mileage

Rare pre-CatGrffs can still be had from £15k!!!!

No....wait, lets buy a Mk1 Escort (Rs1600): £90k...................................... (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284883162123?hash=item42545c140b:g:ucYAAOSwMstiwBnU)

World has gone utterly insane

I’ve not looked but I rarely see many 4.3 variants for sale?
The only thing that puts me off a pre cat is the LT77 transmission but I suppose if it’s a good one and it is used in many cars.
I do get the pre cat image thing but doesn’t decatting a normal one get you to the same place?
Granted it’s easier to get through an mot.
