It’s a hell of a thing to attempt so kudos for that, but way too in depth for me so half watched/half browsed PH. As an idea for an upgrade of a running useable car, fair enough if it floats your boat but holding the entire project up to build something you have no idea if viable on commencing, bonkers!
Yes, and the Ecu could have run a temporary screen and moved on to finishing the car

Problem is, though, finished car = need to have some new project to keep the patreon pounds coming in.

By stringing out Binky they don’t need a new project to start.

Basically they spent 2 years making a PCB breadboard that I used to have as a toy 20 years ago. The crap I used to make in my teens is probably more durable than that too hehe

Not really, people just as likely to watch that video as an upgrade

People still watched the various HG videos about the Countach and it’s ongoing troubles after it’s big rebuild then the recent road trip

Well, I hope they just had a bit of a mental block about producing more videos, and now this one is out the way, they'll make more.

Fairly underwhelming for me, I can only assume there was a LOT of other, real life things going on the last two years for them both. That said, I fully accept that my lack of enjoyment is on me this time, I usually like watching people who are really good at things, do those things. Binky was so enjoyable for me in the previous eipsodes as the fabrication skills and thought out nature of the design was such a joy to watch.

Ah well. Roll on Episode 40 some time in 2026 I guess hehe

Most Patreon payments will be linked to episode release, surely?

Watch Adam at FabCo building his Austin PrincesS-Type and JOhnny Smith's Allegro.

It's like Binky but slightly more down to earth.

They were, but they changed it a long time ago to a monthly fee.

~2,700 paid members, say at an average of £2.50 each, and it's been 18 months since the last video. That hour long video of amateur learning cost £120,000, less tax hehe

The material costs must be a factor. The pile of scrap parts at the end, making a new milling machine and 3d printer etc..

Still not too shabby for a side hustle you’re not really putting too much effort into.

I had serious concerns about the long term durability of the printed solder when they first mentioned it. Then I at the start of the video I thought it was melted into the surface of the board and it would be ok, then they announced you can peel the tracks off the board…

Sorry, but there is zero chance that is going to survive the NVH of a car.
I assumed they'd be potting it all in some form of resin coating.

The clocks are still nowhere near finished rofl

The mother of all rabbit holes I'll give them that.
I think the clocks are pretty much done? They now need to work on the surround? You saw them all do their sweep at the end of the video?

I don't think so, looked like plenty left to do at the current rate of progress.

I still don't like the alternator drive shaft thing and that will be the first point of failure on the car.

Good point, I am assuming that is the finished article, which it might not be.

I get the impression, they'll go with a proper PCB eventually.

While the 3D printed Solder is interesting for YouTube, it's unlikely to be practical for a product. Or at minimum something to be used in a car.

Yes it took 5A static, put 500mA through there with a 2-20khz square wave and the vibration will likely snap it, it doesn't look well attached to the board.

Also I doubt it will stand up well to vibration and thermal.

Regardless of the time for this video I really enjoyed it. With regards using an off the shelf dash he wanted it how he wanted it.

If they're going to get a PCB made at some point, they could have just used a breadboard for prototyping.

I did wonder about the longevity of that board and any one of those lines coming loose would short several others. They must have a plan to secure it once complete. Maybe set in a resin of some sort?

Impressive dedication to the project, but I would have bought modern looking clocks with dimmable led and pay a clock restorer to paint on old style faces.
