We need a runabout for the business and it's a toss-up between a Fiat 500 and a Mini. Given that there will be some longer runs a Mini seems most sensible.

I've been speaking to Mini and using the (not very good) configurator and it appears that what Mini really wants us to have is a Cooper with a pack on it and some finance. However, that takes the car to near £20k.

The basic One is okay as far as I can see and if you add some of the cheaper option wheels it looks okay too. it works out a chunk cheaper.

The finance on a One is at a higher rate than a Cooper so we might look at buying cash.

Any reason why we'd want to go Cooper?

Do you think? Surely a Mini of a certain age will sell no matter what?

It will sell, but wont hold its value as much as a cooper will. Also the Cooper will have a higher spec as standard compared to the One. If your buying for cash, just get which car suits your needs.

I found the R56 One was really slow pulling out of junctions so went for the Cooper. The difference may be less pronounced on the F56, but do try both before you buy.

The car that drops least value is the one without extras. They make the sale easier, but don't recoup much value.

Get the bits on it you want, as nowadays it works out cheaper than getting the de facto Chilli pack which now is a cost disproportionate to its value.

Use a broker like broadspeed.com or drivethedeal.com to get the best price, then ask the dealer to price match.

I'd go for a Cooper as (a) its better spec'd and (b) the 102BHP engine in the One is underpowered.

Yes, i'd run with a Cooper and Pepper Pack.

Broadspeed are offering 10% off (which i would think any main dealer could match) so you could effectively get the Pepper pack "free", giving you a total price of £17,380.

I'd probably pick a metallic paint @ £510 after discount and personal choice - a centre armrest @ £105 after discount and anthracite headlining @ £114.

And MINI driving modes @ £200.

Total price £18,298.
