Does no one tune classic minis anymore?
Discussion
Ive driven a kad 16v on Jenvey itb’s (150hp) for a few years as well as Swiftune sports tourer (104hp) and swiftune road ticket engines (120hp).
My two pence - the kad 16v is incredible and feels way beyond any 5 port mini engine (on the road).
For an engine go to Kad and get the 16v.
For tuners go to Phil Anning at Anning race and restoration in Kent.
In my eyes the best in the business.
Most decent performance builds are done on instagram now although turbominis forum and mk1 performance forum still have decent threads.

For me, the whole point of Minis is that the parts are mostly interchangeable and you can buy "hopped up" replacement parts for pretty much anything. I hope people will keep modifying Minis, make-up their own ideal cars and not be scared to modify them. Most of the 5 million Minis that were made were just boring mainstream vehicles or cheesy special editions that could be used as the basis for some really cool, fast sporty cars. I hope people keep doing that and don't get hung up on the originality thing. That might be relevant for MK1s and MK2s but not for the rest. Just my view, of course.
I bought a 1989 Mini on November '20 specifically to build the car I wanted when I had my last one in 1998. It's a 998 base model that's already had one stage of mods chucked at it (Hilo's adjusted to their lowest, alloys, stainless exhaust, awful modern bucket seats, 10" steering wheel, Mk1 grille, tacho added etc) and I've already done a few changes myself (better seats, setup the suspension correctly, 13" steering wheel) plus given it a thorough mechanical refresh (whole new cooling system, wiring tidy up, new rear subframe etc) to the point now where it just runs and drives sweetly. Next stage is a full strip down and get the shell de-rusted with the odd change then put it all back together. Won't be a Concourse Winner but a very tidy useable example that will just be ripe for a blast to a pub or wherever. In no way will it be a Period Correct example but it will be modified to be how I wanted my original Mini back in '98. My mate had a 1380 Mini and I remember it used to go like a rocket. It was a normal mini (not Clubman) but had Dellortos (?) sticking out where the speedo would be and it felt like it would suck me in!
Who was that tuner who had the book out for the A series, Wizzend or Hazzerd or something?
