From this months mini mag, you can do very little to the SPi and they reckon including buying and prepping the car, excluding bumps about £6K!

Thanks, the pictures were taken by Phil Hetherington, my racing partner this year, using a Canon S45 compact Digital,(we bought the car between us and are going to race alternate events)
The car was prepped, with a competetive engine, we paid £5300 for it with no spares.
the official line is, that you can convert a road 1.3spi Cooper for about £1500, well that is true, if you are just talking about the parts cost. (even then it's stretching the truth a bit)
so far, we have spent approx £4500 ontop of buying the car and trailer this year, this includes all fuel, tow and race, testing , entrance fees, hotel / B&B / camp sites etc.
It will still be a relatively cheap year of motorsport (assuming we don't get any major accident damage)
Race entry fees are approx £165 per race, or about £250 for a double header.
Testing costs between £150 and £200
These fees don't change wether you are racing a Mini or a TVR Tuscan, so there is always going to be a know cost for Test / Race entries.
The plus side, is that parts are mostly standard, and cheap as chips.
We replaced the steering rack, an upper ball joint and a rear hub bearing for about the price of a cup of tea ;-) with some scraped knuckles and a few expetives.
I am recording everything I spend on the racing this year (never have before) so at the end of the year I wil have an accurate breakdown of where the hell my salary has gone ;-)
The racing is very close indeed...
with a mixture of abilities, making for some spectacular in race battles.
