Hello

Just about to buy a 2010 range rover sport, it has 25000 miles

I was shock with the steering wheel vibration, around 70mph when the car pulling the feed back on the wheel is shocking my hand was shaking. It's a land rover dealer and they saying it's the balance on the wheels, funny thing is they said they did it as I mention it before when testing it, I have driven a disco and its no where like this, I thought the cars where the same.

Can any one suggest problems or have had this

Thank you

If the wheels have been correctly balanced then it could be a buckled wheel or out of shape tyre. Could also be a faulty/worn suspension component.

Had this on my RRS (albeit an 06 plate). Took car to get wheels to be balanced only to find a 2 inch split on the inner sidewall causing a tyre bulge.

New tyre fitted & steering wheel vibration (mine was 50 - 60mph) has been eliminated.

Same on my Defender (yer know, like a real Land Rover? hehe).
Same symptom, same solution....a damn good wheel balancing.

Check it hasn't been offloaded & has mud coating the inside of an alloy. I had about 1cm of clay around the inside of an alloy causing this. Other than that I'd say there's more to it than just a thrown weight......

Ned - did you get this fixed effectively in the end? I have just purchased a 2010 RRS, also with c 25k on it, and within a pretty quick period of time it has also demonstrated a comparable steering wheel shake at certain times, around the same speed zone. Other than that, a superb car over the last 500 miles of driving.

Hello

Yes they change the streering wheel streering rack and bushes, its ok now, I got to say I'm amazed on how different the ride is compare to a disco as i thought it's the same under pin, I say it's a step back from a disco ride,

Hello Ned

I bought a 2010 tdv8 autobiography with 26k on the clock. From main dealer chuffed to bits with my fully loaded black beauty I was until I started to get pins and needles in my arms and legs. So back to the dealer I went
They had it in six times trying to put it right. Changed the wheels, steering wheel, steering rack, bushes, drive shaft. And still the car was a bone shaker so they gave me a refund after 6 weeks of disappointment. So two weeks later off we go to hopefully find another one and bingo find another one with 9k miles 2012 model for similar price but v6 and guess what?
Test drove this one and that's got the same vibration through the steering wheel would you believe. So we had to walk away
Test drove a lovely X5 40d but its not the same so now have no idea what to do.
I've been told by main dealer that this is due to the new type of dynamic suspension in the new model to make the ride smoother. What a load of bull.

Wow...can't believe it! Test drove a TDV8 today and exactly the same. Steering shook, felt like scuttle shake all over, sun visor even wobbling it was so bad. Thought wheels might need balancing or something but got out and noticed a burning smell. Seems the rear side passenger brake was sticking or something as the disk was red hot to the touch compared to the other. Needless to say I walked away! Went and bought a new Evoque istead!

Ditto - just got steering wheel, steering rack and suspension changeover + balancing in full. Early days, but it does appear to have solved the problem in most part. Watching out for it very carefully though in case it returns - not what I expected after 3 hrs and 75 miles of ownership so hopefully the fixes now are full and final. There is a Land Rover technical bulletin covering this which I located and used in highlighting the issue to the dealership.

Thread resurrection time - am interested if anyone has had recurring issues with this on their RRS, realistically 2010-2014 "old" models.

In particular, did the issue remain, despite the full application of the fixes in the technical service bulletins issued in 2010/2011?
