How do they not hit the door pillar? Mine have a mechanism that won't allow them to open as far as damaging the door pillar.

Edit.. Thinking about it & don't know if it makes a difference or not but I've probably got series 3 door hinges on a series 2.

Series 2 hinges instead of the later square type. Quite useful when working on it in the garage, fold the door right back for easy passage around the vehicle.

Thanks, I'll be renewing my doors at some point so I'll now look into original hinges & wing instead of door mirrors. Learn something new every day smile

You cannot fit (without modification) mounted mirrors to Series-2 hinges...good luck seeing anything out of the wing mounted mirrors smile

If you're lucky, you can try and find some IIa hinges with the mirror tab:

I quite like my wing mounted mirrors but as suggested, good luck seeing anything in the damn things! That being said, it's less embarrassing if you can't see the queue behind...

My 110 is 32 years old next year. Just spent a month in my garage to sort out a badly blowing head gasket (200Tdi) doing bits as and when I could. All sorted now and pulling like an absolute train, and not spewing oil and smoke out everywhere any more which is nice! Definitely got the smug face on today when she well and truly hauled in a Disco TD5 on a hill on the approach to the GB LR show at Stoneleigh...when we got to the car park the Disco driver said "erm...that's not the original engine in there is it?"

Machining porn about to go back on...

Splashing about in the woods today. Bleddy hell I love this old truck!

Looking good, they just improve with age. Was that last picture taken at Stoneleigh today any chance?

What were you driving? Or were you just walking...and if so did you take any pics/video? Some people were...trying to track them down and see if they have any of us!

Thanks for that. I've been looking about for the correct hinges & my first impression is they are not cheap. I saw just one of those on ebay for £50! Also I replaced the offside door pillar a couple of years ago so am quite confident I can get the hinges off that side. The nearside will be a problem and I foresee changing that door pillar also, but that's a job for next spring which gives me time to find some hinges.

I can imagine the wing mirrors will be a pain to use but I do like the original look.

Was in a black 110. Was on the course about 2pm ish I think. Didn't take any pictures unfortunately. That long steep down hill was s bit hairy wasn't it?

Quite a new shiny 110 SW with people in the back IIRC? You drove past me stood by the entrance with my 2yr old son, I then slotted in behind you in my 110 (it's blue as you can see). Yes, that hill was quite steep...I kept my left hand on the gearbox just in case it decided to jump out of gear (never happened in my 110 but did happen in my old SIII about 20 years ago...brown trouser moment!) but the axles were making some funny noises as presumably the wheels were getting a teeny bit of air in some of the big holes in the ruts. The AWDC marshall said there was a guy in a Disco earlier on in the day who basically went down it on the brakes, locked up, and gathered speed all the way to the bottom where he ended up in a tree...

This is us in technicolour...

Only me and my Dad, so may have been someone else. Car was shiny though! I have two spots with white covers on the grille.

I went down that slope in low range first, feet off everything. The rear started to come round, so I accelerated a little to straighten it up. Then everything lost grip and it was a 2 tonne sledge. Slowed up well before the trees though.

We (me and the little man) had no such excitement...thank feck as I would have started feeling a bit guilty about taking him round if we had. I did ask the marshall first if he reckoned it was fairly safe and he said it would be fine apart from a bit of excitement on that hill for vehicles on roady tyres or people who couldn't drive. What tyres were you on? Hand on heart I genuinely don't think we broke traction once the whole way round...I'm really impressed with my STTs..

You're STTs are a good bit closer to a full mud tyre than my Conti Cross Contact ATs.
