Our 1996 300tdi 12 seater, now at 290,000 miles and having a paddle on the Fosse Way.
Fitted a roamerdrive late last year, results from last week's trip to Scotland are for a five hour journey 28.4mpg and returning in a slightly more sedate fashion gave 30.2mpg. Both cases no faster than 70mph but the trip up I pressed on a bit harder.

^^ That's lovely. Doesn't look the miles at all.
Thank you!It is very tidy for the age, early history seems to be H.R.Owen London demonstrator which may explain it having a roof rack and bull bar? After that the next owner had something to do with the film industry so maybe it clocked up motorway miles to film locations?
Ambition is to get it back from the moon (500,000 miles) which at our current rate of 15,000 a year will take a while!

Nice. I'm planning on getting as far down as TanTan during the summer, set a new personal record for me.
Wow, Summer will be hot. It was warm enough in March. We would like to go back, best thing we have ever done, possibly towards the end of 2019. It’s hard to get enough time off work in one hit though. My car isn’t really properly set up for it, so I’ll be making a few changes before the next trip.blueST said:

I'm just using an old hector of a discovery for the job.
Yeah its a 2 I'm taking, getting her ready over time. Put new Kumho MT51s on all round and have a hidden winch mount on its way just in case. Will change to 5w40 for the heat as well. She also has the allisport intercooler etc so that shoukd be ok.
Cant wait. Driving through France, Spain and across then into Portugal on the way back.

The prep is half the fun isn't it? Don't know whether you are camping or not, but the only essential really is a dual battery system and a fridge. I had neither! Well I did but the vibrations on track killed the spit charge system after a couple of days.Cant wait. Driving through France, Spain and across then into Portugal on the way back.
We did the same route as you, through France and Spain. Didn't do Portugal though. Not much change from 6k miles. I'm sure you've given it some thought, but that is a lot of tarmac miles on MTs. If they are noisey could drive you nuts, and the off road in Maroc is unlikely to need them.
In terms of vehicle prep, the tracks in Marocco, are rough. Shocks, bushes etc. can all take a pounding. If you have airbags on the rear, consider taking a spare set.
Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs. Just the things that I learnt from one trip. I certainly am not a guru on these things!
Hello chap, I had a look on this site and found some pretty good ones just off the B1106 around Elveden way, never been out there before but thought I'd give it a try. They're all clearly marked as byways from the road so reasonably easy to find too.

Useful link and nice to see that there are some near where I live. Would like to get my series or my D3 on some local lanes, but I'm scared I'll get stuck and don't want to go on my own. Should join a local club really. https://www.bywaymap.com/index.html
Not many new pics of the series. Hoping that it will creep its way out of the garage in the upcoming months. It's a slow journey and I fear that getting it through its MOT will be quite a struggle.

This site is very misleading, I don't trust it. Why?https://www.bywaymap.com/index.html
I live in Worcestershire, the map shows what is classified as a Restricted Byway as red but two Byways with PERMANENT Traffic Regulation orders (prohibiting vehicular use) as green. Worcestershire has many more unsealed roads but they are UCRs (Unclassified County Roads) and not shown on Byway map.
You are far better off using Trailwise.
