I'll give it a try and see how it feels. If it doesn't feel right the garage can replace it as it's their mistake.

They did say the brake pedal would be softer (as you say Wookie) due to the old caliper jamming and probably touching the disc before the others. I've never had calipers replaced, only discs and pads on other cars.

Yeah and also the seals are a bit more lively so they pull the pistons a bit more clear of the discs than they do after a few heat cycles.

If it feels a bit long but the pedal firms up and the bite appears later in the travel then it’s probably just the calipers ‘bedding’, if it’s spongey all the way down and the bite feels vague then it’s probably not bled properly

Went with consensus. Left the exterior alone and focused on interior comfort.

Thanks. Couple of things - the shopping bag in the back is my wife’s ’luggage’. The Union Flag on the dash is to cover up Army comms fitments, inc’ a 10mm hole. Far from original but the only thing I could find to perfectly cover the damage.

The main jobs (mostly done by me) were as follows:

- All fluids checked & topped up
- Paint touch up (Coniston Green)
- Machine polish & wax to seal in ’patina’
- New front calipers & pads
- New wheel bearing
- Spray painted & fitted winter wheels
- Fitted spare wheel & cover
- New Osram headlight bulbs
- New wiper motor & blades
- New headlight switch
- Removed old army switchgear but left cabling (nothing interesting, just work lights)
- Snorkel, light guards - all repainted & refitted
- Fitted new radiator surround
- New nylon steering bushes
- New fuel filter & assembly
- Seats - new foam & Oxford Tan covers made to my design in Italy)
- Fitted rear bench seats
- Reupholstered centre cubby box and refitted where ugly army work light switch box was
- new steering wheel
- Covered dashboard paf
- New Mats + I cut mats to fit cargo area
- Removed, cleaned & refitted headlining with new interior light
- Removed all door cards, filled holes & sprayed black with vinyl paint + replaced broken latches - refitted with thermal liners
- Fitted new Bluetooth radio

I’ve tried to use stainless fastenings throughout but actually have come across very little corrosion.

With work calming down I went back to my parents house.
Put the battery back in the disco and after running the glow plugs a few times.
It fired into life on the second crank and settled quickly into its happy idle.
Suspension rose up and I took it a few drives up/down the street to clean up the brakes and give the suspension some use.

Have a replacement fuel tank, hand brake shoes, injector copper washers, tailgate handle, tailgate struts all to fit shortly.
Have spoken with a brake calliper rebuild company who are pricing up getting the front and back callipers and carriers rebuild and then painted in Signal blues Ral 5005 is the paint colour so will stand out with the refurbished alloys which are getting done in a charcoal grey.

Have also spoken to Engine710 in south queensferry about taking the car on to sort the glow plugs, the sills and a full respray and they are happy to do the work.

So old Huey will live to drive another day.

So fk you “elite Land Rover”.

Now got my old bus pretty much how I want it. Just replaced a very bent front bumper. Due to the low profile winch set up, I had to take a hack saw to a brand new bumper to cur a 50cm section out of it to make it fit.

Now I need some summer tyres - was thinking 255 Bridgestone on a set of cream or body-coloured Wolfs. Noticed the hubs look a bit rusty, How do people paint these?

Very nice. I used satin black hammerite on my hubs. I just did a light coat to tart them up rather than slather it on.

When I did my restore I wire brushed everything back including the hubs (final drive flange I assume you mean?) and coated it on corroless marine undercoat and then corolless glass reinforced top coat in black

I used some stuff called Motip 4-1 anti-rust paint for my wheels which has been amazing but it's a spray. so will go for some anti-corrosion primer and some anti-rust satin black.

On the subject of paint, is it recommended to paint wheel arch extensions, mirror casings and grill? They seem to go that dusty grey colour very quickly after treating,

Might be obvious but don’t forget to mask up the wheel mating face on the hub when you paint. Wire brush it but you don’t want paint on it!

I was going to paint them with the wheels on the car. Not too professional I know, but was just thinking of tarting them up.

I haven't actually had it on the road yet as it is undergoing some work ( new petrol tank, swivels, full servicing of front snd rear axles and a doing a proper job of an old half arsed repair to the RNS wing). Wheels are going back to Limestone.

Now due to be finished in the next 2 weeks after 6 long months.
